...and other assorted clippery

From this to this in the space of a couple of days - o humanity, what a terrifying beast you are.

There really ought to be more critical commentary on this from me, but honestly, I'm feeling rather overwhelmed and ever-so slightly nauseous about the whole thing. I mean, how many steps down the line are Cybermen, or Daleks? It's all deeply fascinating too, don't get me wrong - I'm as astounded by the results and possibilities as the scientists, and yet... well, MM already dealt with it in Matryoshka (an episode I prefer, I think, more for it's being a spectacular departure point for sidetracked ponderings, rather than what's actually on the screen) - the theoretical study of something, getting too close to it, getting lost in the devillish details, losing sight of the universe threatening greater whole, then literally being crushed by your own Frankenstein.

On a side note, my ongoing amateur fascination with black holes & light had a field day with this and this. I read something the other day in The Australian about how they've discovered these two black holes that are basically cannibalising each other, the consequences of which could rip the fabric of time & space - well, to an old school sci-fi hack that sounds like a rather clichéd plot device, but oh my god, this time it's actually for real. Still can't quite get my head around it, which is hardly surprising really... I do wish they'd report it as something a little more serious than your local football brawl though. Pfft.
