IY 505: Kitsune Inn

I like the cover pic for this chapter. It's nice to see Shippo drawn big for a change, instead of huddled on Kagome's shoulder or something.
This chapter was so cute. A welcome change of pace. I'm a bit surprised the levity is continuing into next week, but I'm sure once this little arc is over it will be back into something Serious and Dramatic.
It's just nice to see the Inu-tachi interacting with each other as friends, which always lends itself to nice humor moments. Miroku and Sango got a lot of funny moments especially. Which is great to see after all the drama of Sango risking Hiraikotsu for him and Miroku drinking that poison for her. Classic Miroku hitting on women who turn out to be youkai (and male youkai at that, ha).
Loved Kagome's smile at the kitsunes who were trying to trick her. Loved the Inuyasha and Shippo interaction. Squashing Inuyasha with a giant top never fails to bring an amused smile to my face. Predictable? Sure. But these are the things that make me love these characters. Kagome asking the demon at the end to shine brighter so she could read her book was priceless.
The whole kitsunes-having-an-exam-placement-thing reminded me a bit of both Maison Ikkoku and Harry Potter of all things. It's a funny idea that these demons have school type exams like the rest of us, only they have to study and practice for hundreds of years, poor things. XD
It's also interesting to think that "weak" little Shippo, who so rarely gets to really contribute to the big battles in the series, ends up being probably the strongest kitsune of all.
Also, I just realized this MAY be Shippo's last feature arc in the entire series. Let's enjoy the fluff while we can.
You know what I would like to see before the series ends? A pointless filler Jaken arc! Sure, we got a couple of those in the anime, but to see one written and drawn by Rumiko herself would be nice. Probably'll never happen.
