IY 504: Meidou Light

Freelance Manga brings the goods.

Spoilers ahead.

I love this chapter.

There, I said it. Defriend me now. XD

It's just, ugh, it was written with so much personality. There were so many little moments that I just adored.

First, Sesshomaru remarking that Inuyasha is unconscious and just a hanyou. Then pulling the Kongosouhha shard out of his back--and punching him across the face. XD That was hilarious, and let's face it, that was an act of genuine niceness by Sesshomaru's standards. Hehe.

Oh and did anyone notice Naraku is STILL looking at the Meidou by hooking his tentacle into Byakuya's eye? XD Poor Byakuya. He's gonna wanna take a cold shower when this is done.

Then, page 7, Inuyasha says that it was like Sesshomaru broke Tenseiga on Tessaiga himself. YES. Confirmation! I really love that it was Sesshomaru's own decision, that he willingly gave up his power once he realized Inuyasha was Tessaiga's true successor. He may not like what Daddy's done, but he still listens to him. XD

I like that Inuyasha didn't know how to use the Black Tessaiga at first. And Sesshomaru was sort of silently encouraging him, he knew it was something he had to figure out on his own. Then when they start being absorbed by the Meidou, Inuyasha's distressed that Sesshomaru is disappearing. He said he doesn't want Sesshomaru's death on his conscience. So already he and Sesshomaru have gotten past the whole trying-to-kill-each-other-thing from a few moments ago. And I also like that Inuyasha flat out said that Sesshomaru "surrendered" his sword, and he felt bad about it even.

I also like that Inuyasha hasn't mastered Black Tessaiga yet. He couldn't have gotten out of the Meidou without the light from original Tenseiga. So in a way, the brothers had to depend on each other to get out of the Meidou.

So, whoosh, Inuyasha cuts a path out of the Meidou that just happens to exit right where their friends are waiting for them. Love that comic book logic, don't leave home without it! ;)

LOVE the panel of Kagome, Rin and Jaken running toward the brothers. Also the juxtaposition of Kagome yelling "Inuyasha!" while Rin yells "Sesshomaru-sama!" ^^ I love the rare times we get to see Kagome and Rin next to each other. And it's so cute how much they both really love their boys.

Sesshomaru, regarding the swords, saying "It doesn't interest me anymore." I flat out love that. Sesshomaru regressed just a few chapters ago, going crazy/angry over the thought of losing his sword. And now he's totally over it. Yay character growth. We have him back we're we want him. ;)

So then Totosai tells Sesshomaru to take Tenseiga with him. Tenseiga has magically fallen from the sky restored to its original healing form. My first reaction was one of relief, I'll be frank. Original Tenseiga is part of the reason Sesshomaru is so damn interesting anyway. It is a bit sad to think of him without it. I just associate it with him so much, and let's face it, having a sword that brings people to life is one of the coolest powers. It really would be a shame to lose that.

But of course, Sesshomaru plays it cool. "Oh, I don't want a healing sword, screw you, Totosai, you suck." lol

For a moment I actually thought, oh no, he's leaving the freaking sword behind after all that! lol Thank goodness for Rin. She may be young, but she's damn astute. She really is mature and sensible for her age. She understands Sesshomaru's personality perfectly (this is the dude that smacked food out of her hands the first time he met her, and she still tried to keep helping him). She knows that Sesshomaru is still stinging from the heat of battle, and when he cools off he really will want the sword back. He's just not going to admit it in front of Totosai and the others right now.

So yay for Rin for saving the day, so to speak. She takes Tenseiga to hold on to for now.

And oh look! Kohaku ran off with the Sess-tachi! XD I love it. He's here to stay. Sango didn't even try to stop him, pfff.

Originally, a few weeks ago when this whole arc started, I wanted Sesshomaru to get a talking to regarding him leaving his friends alone to get attacked by Naraku. But after all what his ego's been through, it doesn't matter anymore I guess. His friends still love him, Inuyasha seems to have forgiven him, Totosai seemed impressed. These things blow over I guess. Or rather the focus in plot shifted. Oh well. Everything turned out okay.

So now Sesshomaru's weaponless. Or is he? Oh wait, Totosai just happens to mention that Sesshomaru has one more step to take before earning a weapon of his own that has nothing to do with his father.

I said previously that I hoped Sesshomaru didn't go chasing after another sword. And that's why I'm okay with this new development. It isn't Sesshomaru childishly going after power again. He's over that. It's his new maturity that will lead him to a new power of his own, one that has nothing to do with his father. And that I'm okay with.

Plus, and this is the good part, it means that Sesshomaru isn't being written out of the series! YAY! He still has a part to play. Also, it means his development isn't over. This has me very excited. I was worried this might be it for him. But he still has room to grow and he can still play a part in Naraku's defeat! This is very important, because I do feel he has to get Naraku back in some way for Kagura's death.

So, now we're back to the status quo pretty much before the whole Meidou thing started. That's ok with me. Plenty of new developments to happen ahead.

You know, I just realized, this is so like Takahashi to get fandom all riled up and then have everything turn out okay in the end. "False alarm, folks! Sesshomaru isn't being written out of the plot! Just kidding!" It's like when she killed Rin that second time and it was like oh noes! And then four chapters later, "Just kidding. Haha." I give her credit, she really knows how to shake up my emotions reading this thing.
