When Inuyasha is good, it's really, really good. It definitely makes me hope the series doesn't end soon. There's too much potential left. When I think of never seeing these characters again, it makes me sad.
I like how Takahashi takes literary standards we are familiar with (the sword in the stone, the masked man), and puts a new twist on them. You think Inuyasha will be able to pull out the sword, but nope, Kagome does it! You think Shishinki is hiding some horrible scar behind his mask--nope, he has no face!
Oh, I'm so glad Sesshoumaru's group is back. The panel you described in 1) made me laugh out loud; Rin and Kohaku's expressions are absolutely hilarious. Also, that boy/girl/androgynous(?) character that leads them to the big bad guy really freaks me out... though this new bad guy is pretty cool. The weapon, the speech, the lack of half his head... and the short hair. For some reason that really stood out to me, most of Inuyasha's main characters have long hair, or hair that's bound back in some sort of ponytail like Miroku and Kohaku... this is the only guy I can think of who just has it cut off and down. And his hair just has a very different texture... unless I'm just being silly.
Yeah, his hair was different, and it did help to distinguish him from the countless other baddies we've seen.
The only thing that comforts me about the idea of Inuyasha ending is the hope that RT would come out with a brand new series to obsess over right away. ^^

Great chapter, and great analysis. My first thought was also: WTF? Inu-Papa battled the Phantom of the Opera? XDDD
At work, can't write much more. :(

Maybe Inupapa stole the powers, and put them into both the sword and the necklace?
