I guess my subject line kinda gives away my reaction to We Are Marshall, doesn't it?

I'm not going to write a review because I suck at those (I still have the 12 000 word Gladiator essay I wrote in AP English back in high school. Thank your lucky stars that you're spared!), but lemme get two things out of the way first:

1. My knowledge of American ( Read more... )

I love that no one gets up in the end. I've heard that from so many people and I've seen it happen myself twice now. I think it really shows the level of respect that people have for the tragedy of the story.

I've had much, much experience in sports but still I found some of the sports cliches tired - but mainly because I felt a story like this deserved better than slipping into a rote by the numbers approach. But most of the spots that annoyed me were limited to Lengyel's trumped up speeches, some other dialogue, and the weak voiceover, which I felt was so incredibly unnecessary and very cliche ridden.

I thought Foxy was fantastic but I kept noticing all the Jack mannerisms that really are, in essence, Foxy mannerisms, that kind of threw me out of the moment. You know, the hand on the hip, bringing the hand up to his mouth in a moment of distress, and other kinds of hand gestures or stances...I think I've studied him too carefully to truly lose sight of HIM in a part now, which sucks for me.

Hee, McBongos. I thought he did an admirable job, compared to how he's acted in other films, but the talking out of the corner of his mouth thing made me want to punch him! But you're right, anyone who slaps Foxy's ass has to be all right in the end. ;)

David Strathairn is the winner in all this for me. I thought he was WONDERFUL. That scene where he is on the phone calling all of the coaches on the list for the open position is golden.

thanks for those foxy pics, that first one nearly killed me. and Vantage Point? My god. I'm going to melt into my seat.
