So I went Geocaching at lunch today. I've been looking at it for months and months now, but this is the first time I've ever actually gone somewhere because of it. It was fun.
I discovered a cache that covers 12 points all around the area that I work in, and as far as Covent Garden, so I started half way through and did the second part of it. It was themed around this bunch of aliens that can be found all around here, and near each one was an item of local and/or historical interest. There was also a small piece of information to be picked up at each one, and when combined they should all lead to another location. The last part involves going somewhere on the Tube - I'm hoping I can convince Lucid to come with me on Sunday to do the rest of the caches and find the end point.
You're supposed to have a GPS unit for it, but I basically got around that by entering the co-ordinates on Google Maps, then using Microsoft Live Maps to make a collection of pushpins with each of the locations, and printing that out. I don't know if that counts as 'cheating', but it's certainly less expensive until I feel like splashing out... I guess I'd better ask if it's allowed to do it that way before I log the cache as 'found', just in case I upset people.
