Nutrition Info Get!

Okay, should be posting this on my Japan blog, but putting it here for now as follow-up to my earlier post.

Apparently, たんぱく質 (tanpaku shitsu) is protein!  Huh!  I was mistaking it for fat content because it directly follows the エネルギー (energy) reading, which is the number of calories per serving.

Okay, so the label goes calories, protein, then 脂質, or shishitsu, which is fat.  炭水化物 (tansuikabutsu) is carbohydrates, and I misspelled sodium earlier: it's actually ナトリウム, or natoriumu.  せに質 (seni shitsu, and I couldn't find the appropriate kanji for "seni") is fiber, and I barely if ever see that anywhere on nutrition labels.  Like, it's not on my oatmeal, which is weird to me because in America oatmeal is generally always sold on its low-cholesterol related stuff and on its fiber.  Anyway, 糖質 (tou shitsu) is sugar, and 鉄 (tetsu) is iron.  I found all of this very helpful information at the blog Just Another Day in Japan ( http://www.jadij.com/ ).  The specific address for the entry I drew from is http://www.jadij.com/2010/02/getting-by-in-japan-nutrition.html .

Okay, need to go put some makeup on and brush my teeth to get rid of the coffee taste.

Mwah!
