The Dan Tyminski Band

ROMP is over!  And I have to admit--it was awesome.  I didn't get to hear much of the music, but I heard the last band--The Dan Tyminski Band--(aka this year's headliner, aka the band that won a Grammy for their song featured in O Brother, Where Art Thou)--and I have to be honest...they kind of majorly converted me as a bluegrass fan with one of their songs.  Their performance of "The Boy Who Wouldn't Hoe Corn" was absolutely breathtaking.  Dan has an amazing voice that perfectly reaches/echoes/resounds within the heart--perfect for this song (as well as others).  Justin Moses plays the dobro (among many other instruments), and what really gets me about him (aside from the resemblance he bears to an autistic friend from high school) is that he is so calm (outwardly, at least) as he plays.  His shoulders, legs, feet remain still--even his facial expression does not change--as his hands do all the work and create an amazing, lonesome, soul-piercing sound.  And Barry Bales the bassist?  There is something super sexy about him somehow.  Maybe his fingers.  Yeah, probably his fingers.  But also the angular curve (oxymoronic?  why yes!) to his back and neck and sloping shoulders and the intensely contented concentration of his furrowed brows and closed eyes as he plays...I loved watching him.  Anyway, enough gushing.  The song is amazing.  It's a new favorite for me.  If you have a minute and even a slight degree of interest, you can check out the song on this vid:

Also, I may be in trouble.  This crush just keeps growing, and it's surely a situation in which I'm the one who's going to get hurt.  But he's a good guy and a good friend, so I'll enjoy it while it lasts and try not to make life too difficult for either of us.  But...if he makes a move, I'm diving in without a second thought.  I don't want to be able to help it.
