benefit show
so I went to the benefit workshops yesterday and had an amazing time! got to chandara's house at 8am and then we made our way to Dayton. had an amazing workshop with Deniz and Hakan Kaya one hell of a drummer. we worked on isolations and how to interact with the audience and the drummers. i had to dance infront of people who were of a higher caliber that me and it made me so nervous. Chandara made it known to Hakan that it was my first work shop and he kissed my hands! what an amazing person. his hips move better than a lot womens! hahah. both deniz and Hakan thought us how to be relaxed and to feel the music. good for me cuz i am a very nervous ball of a person. we all formed a line and had to acknowledge the drummer and then dance down the line. i did a lot of hip work and Hakan played to my hips and it was awsome! it made me feel really good about how i was moving.
then it was lunch break. we went and found a hotel to rest up and get dressed for the show. then we had some lunch and hung out at the community center for a bit.
then it was time for Faten. OMG was she an amazing dancer. she was very strict and made you be aware of the small things which i liked. what i didnt like about it was she went so fast through a lot of the steps and especially the zills. i have not played them much and i am not comfortable walking let alone dancing with then and then playing them in a pattern i have never been shown. talk about a challenge. but i gave it my bets shot. she showed us some steps and we moved in 3's doen the floor with the cheography. talk about intimadated! but i held my posture and my arms up and my head up and did it pretty well i thought. she was going through sharp hip movements and i did the best my body would allow. i told her that i was a bit broken and thats about all i can get them to pop. she didnt say much and moved on. Deniz was standing next to me and i didnt realize she heard me. toward the end of that class i had to stretch and sit down. my bones were not happy. Deniz came over as i was writing steps down and she said " hun you are not broken." and she looked at me like she was a mother figure taking care of her young. it almost made me cry. some of the intermediate girls showed up for that class and boy they were awsome. they worked really hard and did a lot that they had never been shown. these 2 girls were in the classes that i subed for chandara while she was on vacation so i felt a bit of pride that i helped them get there feet on the ground.
after class i got a couple of pics with Faten and we left to go to the hotel. we wanted some cocktails but lucious and drunkie had the booze covered. they arrived with 2 bottles of wine. while we rested up i took a shower and we had some wine and then it was a mad dash to get ready. we got all dolled up and then Robin called and hell yeas she is coming. we go to the community center ready for the show and i talked to Jen Rose and told he it was awsome to see her. Love that lady!
the showed started with the sandstorm dancers who rocked it out. we got on stage and boy i was nervous. i think we rocked it out. since we worked on isolations and undulations i wanted to make sure i got on that when we were dancing. and i must have done something right. it was intermission and jen had said hey i want to talk to you. we went in the dressing room where Faten and Chandara were and jen asked if i was going to the Zoe Jakes seminar dec 1 and i told her no. i cant afford it and its 3 days before a major surgery. she said not even if i sponsored you? and thats when i went into shock. she said that she saw my pops and locks and said that it would be good for me to learn under zoe because thats what she is amazing at and that is something that i can do well. i stood there with my mouth open and i had no words. i busted out in tears with so much joy that it still makes me cry when i think about it. i thanked her from the bottom of my heart. i looked at chandara and i told her that i must be dreaming. she said no its real kid!
at the end of the show Deniz danced and Laylia picked out her music which she had not heard untill she got up there to dance. and it was hilarious. laylia had picked out some odd bollywood music and Deniz was awsome. i was sitting on the floor right by the stage and she was shacking it and she all of a sudden comes over to me and falls to her knees and we start to shoulder shimmy together and then she turns and lays on my lap and i almost pass out with excitement.! Jen was amazing. she did a theater piece and was wonderful. love to watch her dance. laylia danced and again she didnt know her music either. she was awsome and so funny.
at the end they all 3 got up there and free styled and it was great.
so we left to changed and get our crap and we went to waffle house. good food. we left to come back home and we talked about we all had an amazing time. I am so glad we went.
got home and crashed pretty hard. and im sore but it was soooooooo worth it.
