As you might remember, I had some problems with rectal bleeding and abdominal pain. While I generally shun going to the doctor....ok, so in short, I went.
Please note that I haven't had a general doctor since moving to FL, so I haven't met this guy before. However, he seemed pretty cool--we talked about my symptoms, as well as some family history. He seemed a bit taken aback by one portion:
"So Amanda, is there any history of cancer in your family?"
"Yes--my grandparents."
"Which ones?"
"All of them."
"All of your grandparents have died of cancer?"
"Yes."
So we talked a little more, and then he says "Ok, here's the deal--I am going to go get a nurse. We have to do a rectal exam. Then I am going to write some bloodwork for you, and a referral to see a gastroenterologist. Realistically, this is probably nothing too serious, but you should expect to undergo a colonoscopy."
So he goes and gets the nurse, gives me a drape to cover my gonads with, and then it's time to rollll to my side.
I said "what is this, some kind of medical hazing?"
And he said "hahaha! Yeah, welcome to the office." And then jammed a couple fingers in my butt to look for treasure.
After which I was given some tissue to clean myself off with, and I thought....this is so unfamiliar....and yet, so familiar....
The end.
