First week done at the new job. I dig it. There are a few defined tasks, but it's mainly a troubleshooting, general problem solving position. I like the varied pace and the high contact with people. I am learning a lot, and I really believe I can be good at this. This, to me, feels like I am finally getting my teeth into the beginning of an actual "career."
Not gonna lie; the first day was hard on me, physically. My new job as an HR Generalist for a big call center includes running the weekly on-boarding session. During the busy season, it appears that we on board over 100 people per week, and they get split into multiple classes.
I'm not worried about presenting. I can make that happen. But I did not wear flats.
My feet haven't hurt that much by the end of a work day in...I can't remember. I really thought they were going to be bleeding when I took my shoes off (they weren't).
The other big issue? I hadn't slept much the night before because I was too keyed up. I showed up, excused myself to go to the bathroom, and got the shits. I had to excuse myself from the presentation a handful of times while some other presenter was speaking under the guise of using the bathroom, just so I could sit down because I was about to pass out. I would sit on the edge of the toilet, alternating between hot and cold sweats, thinking to myself "YOU WILL NOT PASS OUT IN FRONT OF THE TRAINEES. PULL IT TOGETHER. YOU WILL HAVE A SNACK SOON." I felt like a douche.
Finally, we broke for a snack, I crammed some pb crackers in my face and felt a little better.
I have purchased a squeeze bottle full of applesauce for this week. They make those! I'll be better than Shelby in "Steel Magnolias."
