TV Meme: Look, ships!

Jun 16, 2011 18:02

We have come to what, as a fangirl, is quite possibly my favorite part of this meme. I've kept the squealing and all to a minimum though, and actually provided a thoughtful response. And I didn't provide an endless list of ships. I just gave examples. See how nice I am?

Day 01 - A show you wish had never been canceled.
Day 02 - A show that you wish more people were watching
Day 03 - Your favorite new show (aired this TV season)
Day 04 - Your favorite show ever
Day 05 - A show you hate
Day 06 - Favorite episode of your favorite TV show
Day 07 - Least favorite episode of your favorite TV show
Day 08 - A show everyone should watch
Day 09 - Best scene ever
Day 10 - A show you thought you wouldn't like but ended up loving
Day 11 - A show that disappointed you

Day 15 - Favorite female character
Day 16 - Your guilty pleasure show

Day 18 - Favorite title sequence
Day 19 - Best TV show cast
Day 20 - Favorite kiss

Day 21 - Favorite ship

Just one? Only one? I... I can't do that. I just cannot do it. There are so many. But, having said that, I think I do have a specific kind of ship that I like the most. I like the snarky ships. The one where the pair has so much chemistry that even their arguing makes the upcoming feelings obvious. I mean, lets just look at the ships I think I've mentioned so far in this meme, shall we?

Lilly/Oliver (Hannah Montana)
Freddie/Sam (iCarly)
Joey/Pacey (Dawson's Creek)
Micheal/Maria (Roswell)
Quinn/Puck (Glee)
Monica/Chandler (Friends)
Even though it isn't mentioned, I'll add Jackie/Hyde (That 70s Show) for good measure here.

You see the pattern, right? I mean, every once in a while, I probably do ship characters that don't follow that pattern (Heath/Fly from Blue Water High, James/Juliet from LOST), but more often than not, it's the banter that gets me. There's something great about two people who think quick enough on their feet, and know each other well enough, to provide just the right quips to cause the most annoyance. It probably also has something to do with that kind of interaction being similar to the ones in my own life. I always prefer the stories that have the super antagonistic or the friends first relationships. The whole love at first sight thing just doesn't appeal to me. Just because you want to drool over someone doesn't mean there's something there. The people that you tend to care about the most are the ones who can hurt you the easiest.

That, and, from a storytelling stand point, who wants to watch two perfectly polite and nice people be all vanilla? It's boring. Sparks and sass are more fun to watch.

Hey, I only speak the truth.

Day 22 - Favorite series finale
Day 23 - Most annoying character
Day 24 - Best quote
Day 25 - A show you plan on watching (old or new)
Day 26 - OMG WTF? Season finale
Day 27 - Best pilot episode
Day 28 - First TV show obsession
Day 29 - Current TV show obsession
Day 30 - Saddest character death
