idk how many people on my f-list still come on here but w/e I'm updating anyway. I guess I'll start from this summer

-I spent 4 or 5 hours every weekday (and sometimes on the weekends too) doing research in my lab
-I went to South Dakota to do field work for lab. it was pretty exhausting but fun as well and I learned a ton
-21st birthday went well. nothing too big, just went to Murphy's (the local pub) with a group of friends who made sure I wasn't ever without a drink
-I went to NYC at the end of the summer to photograph specimens in the collection in the American Museum of Natural History. I was completely by myself in the city for about a week but I never felt lonely...I think I finally may have learned how to be happy by myself
-fall semester started out excellent because I had essentially nothing to do for the first 6 weeks, and after that it turned hellish. if it weren't for my friends, who were in the same boat, I probably would have gone crazy.
-Pygmalion Music Festival was AMAZING this year. I saw Explosions in the Sky, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Toro y Moi, Washed Out, Cut Copy (phenomenal!!!!!), the Dodos, Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin, STRFKR, Xiu Xiu, Japandroids, Deerhoof, and The Pains of Being Pure At Heart.
-Halloween my friends and I went party hopping. I was Judy from Doug, and I got plenty of compliments on how awesome I was haha
-at the beginning of November I went to present my research at the Society of Vertebrate Paleontology meeting in LAS VEGAS!!!! which was a wonderful opportunity for me to network and meet cool people and also experience Vegas.
-I started going to the Wednesday potlucks that a couple of my friends host at their house and I became friends with the rest of the people in the house and the other people that attend the potlucks. yet another thing that kept me sane this past semester--those people are awesome!
-started applying for graduate school. so far I've turned in apps for Berkeley and Yale, and I've still got my UC-Davis and UNL apps to do.

that's pretty much it. next semester I'm taking it relatively easy since I have to take biochem lab, which is going to be awful. other than that, I'm taking field ecology, herpetology (!!!!), and general physical meteorology, and I'm doing 3 hours of independent research, which I will spend writing to submit with my application for distinction and which I hope to submit for publication as well.

unlike when I left high school, I think I'm really going to miss all of the people I met here. hopefully we'll stay in contact with each other (with facebook and email that shouldn't be difficult)
