My favorite things in/near London were the V&A (pretty much the best museum ever) and Kew Gardens (and we were there in late October/November and they were still awesome, if a bit damp). We first stayed with in a flat owned by a hostel management group that was awesome, but when we got back from Stratford-upon-Avon (which is pretty boring unless you like historical house museums but the play was good), the same group set us up in this shithole they were in the middle of remodeling and it was so very nasty. Thank god it was just overnight. I can't for the life of me remember the name of the company though. :(
I did the wander around the country thing in Ireland but have mostly just stuck to cities in the UK. I can also come up with probably out of date rec for Edinburgh, but that's about it.
I continue to be thankful that driving through PA isn't as soul destroying as OH.
Oh, and the buy ahead website for trains works pretty well, although it freaked out Jason's credit card company and they put his card on hold after he bought the tickets from our house. That was fun, especially since we were leaving the next day.
About the only thing Ohio has going for it is that the rest stops on the turnpike are usually better than PA's. But that's it. I hate it so much.
Oddly, I never had a problem with my credit card, although Bank of America charged me through the nose for using an ATM in London. They are so fail.
Oh, another thing I did that might be of interest is I picked up a backpacker's tour in Ireland and that took care of my lodging and travel. I was able to jump on and off when I wanted to and it was a good way to figure out where I wanted to explore more. But I also had like six weeks in Ireland to do this so it might not be practical.
Yeah, Ohio, I don't know what it is about Ohio really. It might be partially psychosomatic, because as soon as I cross the border into PA, I feel better.
Yeah, my mom just gave me a buttload of UK currency to use, leftover from her trip, but I'm going to try to avoid that.
I won't be able to get to Ireland, sadly. Someday. Someday.
Oh, I was thinking you might be able to pick up a tour in the UK. I know they had a couple up in Scotland but it's not something I researched the last time we were there.

I like how small the country is. I'm like, "two hours on a train? You can't even get across PA in twice that! Hah!"
Because I am a colonialist bitch.

Thanks for the heads up on the tickets. I'll have to tell my CC company that I'll be going out of the country for a while. AND NEVER COMING BACK.
