I've been planning a family road trip to Quebec to take place in July for a couple of months now. Conversations with my sis indicate that she really really wants us to come. Rick has already scheduled the time off from work so no problem there. We've worked out all the details, such as putting the kids in a summer day-camp, and the little ones (my sister's) in daycare which would give us grownups a little bit of breathing room. Then, as news of record profits for gas companies came out and gas prices shot up sky-high, I started to have some serious reservations about going. In fact, depending on my mood, I've all but cancelled summer vacation all together.
My alternatives are to either bite the bullet and take the 25 hour drive with 3 bickering kids or stay here at home with 3 bickering kids and listen to them complain about how bored they are (remember spring break?). The way I see it, I'm fucked either way.
Should a year-round school calendar come up on the voting agenda, I'll be writing in an enthusiastic HELL YES.
