Author: amalie31mus

Chapter: 14
Summary: Ueda’s family lives in a dangerous time, his half brother, Ryo, have evil plans and his life is in danger; will his new guardians be able to protect him?

The next day at work went worse than Ueda had expected, Kame had apparently talked to Junno about his argument with Ueda last night and asked to ignore him the whole day.
Kame hadn’t said anything to Koki or Maru, but he didn’t have to; apparently those two have gotten together and it was almost impossible to separate them, Ueda thought it was quiet ironic.
Jin was the only one left to talk to, but he found it awkward to talk to; that Tuesday, Ueda barely talked to anyone and held to himself.
It was a weird feeling for him, he was used to talk and play around with his friends; but these days had just gotten complicated and crazy, he felt alone and depressed.

It was only five o’clock when they got off work that day, but because it was late August, it would get dark really quickly. Koki and Maru left together in each others arms and Junno were no where to be seen. Jin had left earlier because of some business he had to attend and now, Ueda and Kame were left alone in the dressing room.
Ueda didn’t want to have a conversation with him again, so he quickly packed his stuff and was about to leave when Kame were quicker out of the door and bumped into him.
Ueda were surprised by the impact and dropped his notebook, he bent over and picked it up; Kame’s smirking face met him when he straightened up again.
“What?”
“Nothing, just be careful on your way home. It’s dark outside, bad things could happen, if you’re not careful.”
“Thanks for the advice.”
Ueda shrugged his shoulder and quickly went past Kame, he didn’t want to see his once friend’s smirking face anymore than needed to.
“God, he looks just like Ryo…” Muttered Ueda under his breath, a shiver went down his back as he stepped out of the building and into the cold dark night.

Now when Ueda looked back to the past few months, many things had changed. Ryo had so many different activities so he forgot to bother Ueda whenever they passed each other in the hallways, Ueda thought it was nice for a change.
But it was still kind of different, Ueda used to just take Ryo’s sharp comments and had gotten used to ignore his sharp tongue, but it was part of his everyday -kind of normal- life; Ueda could always see the small changes when they happened, it weren’t always pleasant and comfortable, because changes meant that he had to learn to adapt himself to them.
He had to learn how to cope with the new challenges and they weren’t always easy to take; sometimes the changes would push him to the limit, both mental and physical, but most of the time they were rewarding: he’d get used to the change.
He would have learned how to adapt the small changes into his everyday life, without the biggest changes in other places; he still went to boxing, he were still composing songs on the piano and guitar, but as always, he rarely shared them with anyone, not even his friends.
Some things, that Ueda came up with, felt so emotional, it felt like it was his own soul he were showing; the thought of sharing that with someone else frightened him, therefore, he rarely showed his friends what he did.
The first song he played for them, Love in Snow, hadn’t been as personal; he had been watching a romantic movie, against his own will, and he was inspired by the tragic ending, and added it to the scenarios outside his window, it had been snowing that day.

Ueda suddenly stopped walking. Did he hear footsteps behind him? Was somebody following him, or were they just walking?
Ueda sighted and started walking again, he heard several footsteps approaching him, they didn’t speed up and they didn’t slow down; they were walking the exact same speed as he was, Ueda dared not to look.
He turned down to one of the busier streets where the roads were filled with cars and sidewalks were packed with people going home from a hard day of work, but the people behind Ueda kept following him.
Were Ueda just being paranoid? Were there really somebody following him?
Crazy thoughts started running inside Ueda’s head, how to defense yourself against attackers, do you run or do you scream for help?
Would the attackers be crazy enough to attack people on the open streets, where everybody could see and hear what was going on?
Ueda looked around at the street names he was at least another ten minutes from his apartment; could he be quick enough to get home?
He strongly doubted it.
Automatically, Ueda turned down to the right to a smaller street where the cars weren’t allowed to go.
Where the hell am I going?
Ueda knew, that if his stalkers were after him, he needed to get somewhere safe, but where?
His own house were too far away, Koki and Maru were probably together so he didn’t want to disturb them, Junno lived all the way on the other side of the city; Kame, definitely no! Jin? He lived just a few blocks away from here.
But Ueda could run into a certain problem: what if Kame was at Jin’s apartment? Could he take the risk?
If he went there, would Jin just call him paranoid and laugh at him?
Ueda could clearly hear the footsteps approach, as they got louder and louder.
Ueda had no chance to change his mind; he needed to go somewhere safe, now!
He had no idea on what his stalkers wanted, but barely anything good.

Ueda took up his speed and were half running down the busy streets, he heard his followers grunt in annoyance as they picked up their speed too; Ueda grabbed his bag tighter and turned down to the right.
Yes! I’m almost there! Just have to go past this house and-
Out of nowhere, a hand grabbed his ankle and yanked him backwards, Ueda yelled out in surprise as he lost his balance and fell forward on the hard pavement; his reflexes were quick enough so he braced himself from the impact with his hands, letting them take the fall instead of his head, Ueda winced as he felt the skin on his balms being scraped off.
The pain hadn’t kicked in yet, but he knew it would, sooner or later.
The hand on his ankle loosened and Ueda were able to turn around to see who had grabbed him.
At least five men towered over him, they had big grins on their face and had sweat dripping from their faces; they probably hadn’t done a lot of exercise, so Ueda’s small sprint had taken their breath away from them.
The man who had grabbed Ueda’s ankle stepped forward and grabbed his wrist and yanked him on his feet, Ueda yelped out in pain and kicked the man near his private area, the man let go of Ueda’s wrist in surprise, which gave him a chance to get the hell out of there.
Ueda grabbed his bag, which he had dropped during the fall and started sprinting towards the apartments where Jin lived; his hand were throbbing but he tried to ignore the feeling of looking down at them, he were afraid that he might start screaming and pass out. Then the men could get him and do whatever they wanted with him.
Hell No!

Ueda got to the big building and started banging on the button which called up to the apartment which Jin lived in, he looked back and saw the dark shadows getting closer; they were just around the corner.
“Come on…” growled Ueda and hit the calling button again and again, frustrated to get inside to safety.
He heard the man which he had kick laugh and were getting closer and closer, soon, Ueda would be able to see them, and then it would be too late.
Then, Ueda heard the most wonderful sound in the whole world, the click sound which tells you that the person in the apartment picked up his or her phone.
“Yes?” Ueda could clearly hear how annoyed Jin sounded, he probably thought it was some prank some little kids did.
Ueda were more than delighted to hear Jin’s voice, he almost wanted to laugh.
“Jin!”
“What? Ueda? What’s wrong? Why are you panting?”
Ueda looked back and saw the men appear around the corner, Ueda started pulling at the entrance door; hoping that it would magically open for him, but it didn’t.
“Jin! Somebody is following me! Please help me!”
“Following you? Wait-What? Who’s following you?”
“I don’t know! I didn’t have time to ask them!”
Ueda got frustrated, the men were getting dangerously closer, Ueda banged on the door.
“Just open the damn door! I’ll tell you when I get up!”
“Okay, hold on.”
Click
The door clicked open and Ueda jumped inside, he yanked the door shut behind him and made sure it was locked. He sighted in relief and started walking up the stairs to Jin’s apartment.
He glanced down the stairs and luckily the men hadn’t been able to get in.
Ueda reached the door to Jin’s apartment and rang the bell, it took only a few seconds for Jin to open the door and stare at Ueda with wide eyes; he grabbed Ueda’s shoulders and started to yell, “are you okay? What happened? I was so worried? Oh my god! Your hands! Let’s get inside!”
Before Ueda could say anything Jin had pulled him inside and closed the door behind them, he helped Ueda to take off his shoes and jacket and grabbed his bag and placed it on the kitchen table; then he guided Ueda into the living room and made him sit on a chair by the dinner table, “I’ll be right back, don’t move!”
Jin hurried out to the bathroom to get the first aid kid, he were back shortly after and sat down across from Ueda so they looked directly at each other.
Jin opened the kid and turned to Ueda, without saying anything he gently took Ueda’s right hand and examined the scratches on his palm; he cleaned off the blood and wrapped them with a bandage, Jin were so careful that Ueda could barely feel it.
As Jin turned to Ueda’s left hand he asked without looking up, “what happened?”
“I don’t know, I was walking home when I suddenly saw that I was being followed.”
“Did you know them?”
“No, I haven’t seen them before.”
“…”
“Where’s Kame?”
“He’s probably drinking with Yamapi.”
“Something happened?”
Jin had finished Ueda’s other hand and stood up, he packed away the kid and went over to sit on the sofa; Ueda followed him and sat down beside him, Jin looked down at his hands.
“We’ve had a couple of disagreements lately.”
“Kame told me that you might not like him anymore.”
Jin looked up in shock, “He told you that?”
Ueda looked embarrassed down, “Yeah, the day we got back from the trip, he talked to me about it.”
“What did he say?”
“Nothing much.”
“Oh…”
Ueda tried to stiffen a yawn, but Jin saw it and smiled, “I’ll go get you my extra pajamas, you can sleep in my bed.” He went to his closet and pulled out a black and dark green pajama for Ueda.
Ueda stood up, “I-it’s fine, I can take the couch.”
“Don’t be silly, you’re the guest.”
“I weren’t invited, I just came barking in.”
“That’s okay, I’m used to sleep on the couch, when I sometimes had a fight with Kame-”
“I don’t need to hear any more of that, we can share, I don’t mind.”
Ueda smiled and took the pajamas out of Jin’s hand and went to the bathroom.
Jin changed to his own pajamas, which were dark blue; he went to his bedroom and got out some more pillows and bed sheets before lying down, he sighted and closed his eyes.
A few minutes later Ueda came out and carefully crawled into Jin’s bed, he was cautious not to touch Jin by accident; he lay down on his side so their backs were facing each other, they laid for a while in the silence.
Ueda whispered, “It’s weird.”
“What’s weird?” Mumbled Jin.
“We never really talked together and it always seemed like you didn’t like me.”
Jin were glad that Ueda couldn’t see how embarrassed he was, Jin could clearly remember that he never really were happy about Ueda; but now it all seemed so stupid, he wish he had never acted nice in front of Ueda.
“I don’t hate you.”
“I figured out, else you wouldn’t have let me in today. Thank you.”
“No problem, good night.”
“G’night.”

Jin saw the cutest face the next morning, Ueda had turned the other way so he was facing Jin; his hair was a big mess and his bangs were covering his eyes, his mouth were slightly open in a funny pouting way, Jin laughed.
He removed some of the hair from Ueda’s face and got a groan in response from Ueda, he stirred in his sleep and slowly opened his eyes; he looked around in confusion and smiled when he saw Jin, clearly he weren’t feeling uncomfortable or embarrassed by sleeping in the same bed as Jin.
“Good morning.” Jin smiled.
Ueda groaned, “Is it already morning?”
“Yeah. Did you know you talk in your sleep?”
Ueda sat up in the bed and looked shocked at Jin, “What? What did I say?”
Jin sat up too and laughed, “Just joking so don’t worry, by the way, how are your hands?”
Ueda tried to take the bandages off but found it rather difficult, Jin scooted closer to his friend and gently took his hand, “let me help.”
Ueda didn’t protest and let Jin remove the bandages on his hands, the wound on his palms were healing quickly and by today or tomorrow, the scars would probably have faded so they would barely be seen.
Jin caressed Ueda’s hand, “They won’t leave any scars and you don’t have to wear more bandages again, they’ll be fully healed by tomorrow.”
“Thanks.” Ueda felt himself relaxing by Jin’s touch; he could feel his blood rush up in his face.
Jin placed his hand on Ueda’s forehead and asked concerned, “Are you feeling okay? Do you have a fever?”
“N-No, I’m fine, probably still tired, that’s all.”
“Okay, let’s get up then, else we will be late for work.”
“Let me make breakfast then, as a thank you for saving me yesterday.”
“Are you sure? What about your hands?”
Ueda got out of the bed and smiled, “It’s just scrapes, nothing serious, just get ready and I’ll have breakfast ready in about 15minutes.”
“Yes mommy!”
Ueda grabbed one of Jin’s pillows and threw it after him, Jin ducked just in time and stuck out his tongue at him.
“Can I borrow a shirt?”
“Sure, just look in my closet.”
Ueda looked around for a few minutes before he took out a black shirt with some red and white writing on the front.
Jin raised an eyebrow, “seriously? I thought that you had gotten over the whole ‘emo’ style.”
“It’s not emo, and I like the black color, it suits me. I’ll be in the kitchen.”
Ueda left and in a few minutes, Jin could smell eggs and bacon, Jin sighted and lay back down in his bed; it was a long time ago since Kame had done that for him, it felt really nice knowing Ueda were making breakfast for him.
He got up and went to take a shower, he got out right as Ueda had put the food on the table; he had made English breakfast with bacon, egg and toast, Jin sat down on the table with a towel wrapped around his shoulders.
“Wow! It tastes amazing!” Said Jin surprised with his mouth full of bacon and eggs.
Ueda laughed and pointed at Jin’s mouth, “thanks, but you probably need to close your mouth so I don’t have to see what you are eating.”
“Sorry!”
Ueda watched as Jin ate all his food happily, Jin’s hair was still a little bit wet and water dripped down his face; Jin looked up, “What?”
“The hair suits you, you should leave it down.”
“You’re sure?”
“Yeah, it shapes your face nicely.”
“Thanks.”
Ueda blushed when he realized what he had said, Jin saw it and laughed.
“You don’t have to feel embarrassed about telling me that I look hot, I know it already.”
“Baka!” Ueda hit Jin on top of the head with the newspaper which lay beside them.
“Ouch! What was that for?”
“You love yourself too much!”
“I don’t!”
“Yes you do!”
“No I don’t!”
“Yes!”
“No!”

Bib…bib…bib…bib…

Ueda stuck out his tongue at Jin before looking at his watch, “we got to, or else we’ll be late.”
Jin laughed and stood up, he grabbed the plates from the table and put them in the sink before he grabbed his bag and jacket; Ueda followed right behind him and closet the door to Jin’s apartment, Jin looked at his watch as they descended down the stairs.
“We’ll just make it if we take the bus.”
“Ok, you’ll lead and I’ll follow.”
“Of course, my Queen.”
*smack*
“Ouch! What was that for?”
“Don’t call me that!”
“Why not? You sure look like one.”
*Punch*
“Hey! No reason to hit me in the shoulder, we have dance practice today! I’ll be sore!”
“You deserved that one.”
“Oh, you are so nice; you are just like a woman who-OK! OK! No need to raise your fist at me! I get it! Calm down! I was just joking!”
Ueda laughed, “Let’s just get to the bus so we don’t get late.”
**********
Jin and Ueda were lucky enough to get into their dressing room before their manager left.
Junno greeted them with a smile and said, “You’re lucky, our manager have a meeting this morning so he’ll be a little late.”
“Thank god!” Laughed Jin and put his stuff down at the table and unpacked.
Maru and Koki were in the corner talking to each other about something, they seemed to quiet enjoy themselves so Ueda decided not to disturb them; unfortunately before he could get something to do, Kame came over to him.
“Why are you wearing Jin’s shirt?”
“I stayed at his apartment last night.”
“You did what?”
“I-It’s not like that! Something happened and I needed a place to stay, he offered.”
Kame looked furiously at Jin; Jin came over and said, “Where were you last night, Kame?”
Kame’s eyes widened and you could clearly see he was looking for an excuse, “I stayed at my own place.”
Jin walked over to Kame so they were almost touching each other; Kame shuddered as Jin smelled his hair.
“Then why is it, that I can smell Yamapi’s nasty stench all over you?”
Kame’s face turned red as a tomato, he tried to say something to defend himself with; but it was useless, he had been caught.
Ueda tried to hide his smile behind Jin’s back, but Kame noticed it; his eyes grew dark with anger and hissed between his teeth, “just wait Ueda, this isn’t over yet.”
He pushed Jin aside and stormed out of the dressing room, nobody cared to stop him.
Junno turned back to his video games and Koki and Maru started up their long lost conversation again.
Ueda felt that something was going to happen, he had clearly seen Kame’s hatred in his eyes; Ueda knew that it was almost impossible for Kame to hurt anyone, but at this point, Ueda started to think that Kame could just be that kind of person, who would hurt someone.

Kame went into the bathroom and pulled out his cell phone, he quickly typed in a number and hit the green button.
”Yes?”
“You didn’t do a very good job last night.”
”Sorry, he got away.”
“You get another chance tonight, if you want the money.”
“Can we do anything to him?”
“Anything.”
“Great, I’m going to enjoy this.”
“Just don’t screw up again.”
CLICK
Kame laughed, “Just wait Ueda; you’ll get what you deserve.”
*********
After work that day, Jin came over to Ueda while he was packing his things.
“Do you want to go and get some coffee on the way home?”
“Sure!”
They left the building after saying goodbye to everyone, except for Kame; he hadn’t been around at the time.
They came to a Starbucks shop and were about to go inside when Ueda said, “Can you please buy coffee for me? I just want to go to that music store for a second.”
“Sure, we’ll just meet out here in front afterwards.”
“Thanks!”
Ueda went into the music store, which were on the opposite side of the Starbucks; it was a small streets where the cars couldn’t come, it were half filled with people but they were disappearing rather quickly because it was getting almost six o’clock.
Ueda looked for the new release CD from Gackt, but unfortunately they didn’t have it so he left again.
By the time Ueda had gotten outside again, the street were almost empty; Ueda could feel that something was wrong so he walked quickly over to the Starbucks with quick steps, but he hadn’t even gotten halfway before he was brutally stopped.

The man which he had kicked yesterday had grabbed his arms and pushed him towards one of the small alleys, Ueda screamed out and hoped that someone might hear him; he set his legs into the ground and tried to make the guy stop, but someone else came up and kicked his shin so he gasped in pain.
“Just let go of him here Hiro, nobody will be able to hear or see us here.”
The guy who was holding Ueda, Hiro, let go of him and threw him to the ground; Ueda stumbled and tried to regain his balance but tripped over some trash bags, Hiro grabbed his hair by the roots and yanked Ueda up on his knees. Ueda cried out in pain and felt the tears come up.
“Thoshi, just look at him crying!”
Thoshi laughed and punched Ueda in the head, his head snapped to the side and a cut over his eyebrow started to bleed; Ueda looked with scarred eyes at the two guys above him, the pain hadn’t kicked in but he couldn’t think about it at the time.
He realized that the two guys were maybe going to kill him, Ueda could feel his body go numb; nothing like this had never happened before to him, he didn’t know how to react, he were going to die.
What should he do? He tried to get Hero to let go of his hair but his fingers had gone numb.
Hero forced Ueda to lift his head up with his other hand, Thoshi laughed with the creepiest laughter Ueda had ever heard.
“He’s really pretty! Shouldn’t we have some fun with him before we kill him?”
“Else it would be such a waste,” laughed Hiro, he threw Ueda down on the ground and walked over him so his legs were on each side of Ueda.
Ueda had gotten numb in his whole body, he felt cold and he couldn’t move his fingers or toes.
Thoshi went behind Ueda and pushed his shoulder down so he couldn’t move, Hiro stood above him and opened his belt and unzipped his pants, he kneeled down and spread Ueda’s legs, then he started to work on Ueda’s pants.
Ueda’s self defense kicked in and he tried desperately to get the man off him, he hissed for the man to get off him.
Hiro laughed and had already undone Ueda’s pants and were about to pull them down as he suddenly froze; his eyes opened wide up and he felt limply to the ground beside Ueda.
Thoshi growled and stood up but something hit him in the side of his head and he fell bleeding to the ground.
Ueda sat up and looked around to see what had happened, Jin stood about a meter away and were holding a couple of stones in his hands; he looked furious and threw another stone at the two limply bodies around Ueda to make sure that they wouldn’t wake up in a while.
He quickly walked over and kneeled in front of Ueda, he looked concerned at Ueda and asked with the gentlest voice ever, “Are you okay? Did they do anything to you?”
Wave of emotions hit Ueda as he suddenly realized what the men were going to have done to him, tears streamed down his face and he choked as his nose were blocked; Jin pulled him into his chest and held him tight, he whispered into Ueda’s hair, “It’s okay, you’re safe now. Everything’s fine.”
Ueda wrapped his arms around Jin’s neck and gasped for air, he choked, “I-I want t-to see the woman…t-tonight!”
“Tonight?”
“Y-Yeah…I-I’m so tired…I can’t live l-like this anymore…I-I need to know, if m-my dreams are real…I-If it’s true that I’ve live b-before…I-I can’t anymore…I can’t…”
“Shhh…It’s going to be okay, I’m here, don’t worry, we’ll go see her right now, don’t worry, we’ll figure things out, don’t worry, I’m here.”
Ueda were shaking as the tears still came, Jin took his sleeve and tried to dry some of them away; Ueda had become all emotional, his dreams, his strange flashbacks, lack of sleep, and now this, Ueda couldn’t take it.
He needed to know the truth, the truth…if all these things were connected in some way; he needed to know…he wanted to know.
Jin wrapped his arms tighter around Ueda’s broken body, he wanted to protect Ueda, he realized; he didn’t care about Kame, he wanted to be with Ueda and protect him at any cost.
“We’ll go to her, I promise, I’ll help you get through this, I promise. I’m going to be here for you, don’t worry about anything, everything is going to be fine. Ueda…”
Ueda…I love you!
