Washington DC

Hard to believe it was almost 2 weeks ago that we were leaving for DC! We had a good trip... everything went well, our hotel was great, we saw a lot but also left a lot for a future trip. Probably the hardest thing was the heat and humidity, which slowed us down a little.

I can't say that I generally want to take a bath at a hotel, but neither of us could resist the Westin's "Heavenly Bath," especially after all our walking. It might be hard to see in the pic but it is VERY deep.

We went on a nighttime tour of the monuments and such, which was maybe a little bit of a cheesy tourist thing to do, but it was fun nonetheless. We were glad to have a DC native as our driver/guide. He had a lot of interesting stories and information. This is a view of the Supreme Court from the trolley.

I think the Lincoln memorial was my favorite.

Red panda at the Smithsonian National Zoo.

Leah's favorites, the elephants.

Mailboxes from around the world, at the Postal Museum.

Inside the Library of Congress.

There was a Jim Henson exhibit at one of the Smithsonian galleries, and it was probably one of the best things we saw. It was just really cute and uplifting and a good way to end our trip.

There are more pics in my Scrapbook. We did a lot of other things too that I don't have pictures of... the biggest being the Holocaust Museum, where we spent about 4 hours, and also the African Art museum and shopping at the HRC store and a few dinners in Georgetown. The only confusing thing about the Metro was deciding what kind of a pass to buy, but once we dealt with that it was really easy and convenient. There was a cute little cafe right across from our hotel with a fresh fruit bar that was perfect for breakfast. Probably the biggest disappointment was that we only did a few geocaches... doing the monument tour at night meant we missed a lot of those virtuals, and we were just too tired to walk around searching for many others. But we made sure to do a few on our last day so that at least DC shows up on our log list. Just one of those things to do on our next trip there! We have talked about meeting my parents and my brother there sometime, and I really think we should set that up soon.
