Most people by now know I am pregnant. Seven years ago when I was still with my ex (wanker), I was told I could not have children without IVF. The reason given is that my tubes were scarred and completely blocked. The doctors also found that my ovaries were fused to my uterus. So, I was put on the waiting list for IVF and when my turn came, I said ( Read more... )

Regarding their safeness now, if you add up the number of safe procedures compared with the number of complications you will find it is still very low. That title you said was "Postabortal pelvic infection associated with Chlamydia trachomatis and the influence of humoral immunity" says it all. Usually complications occur with secondary factors, ie, the woman had chlamydia, had clotting issues, or was concious during the proceedure and moved too much, which can be dangerous because of the risk of perforation. This very VERY rarely happened, and the clinic saw 80 + cases a day. That is a lot compared to any complications. It is far safer now than it was then. There are still countries where it is illegal, and women have to take measures into their own hands - or in the hands of someone totally inexperienced. Methods of analgesia are either unavailable, or not even an option. There, the woman suffers too, and risks complications big time. I'm not dismissing your case as evidence at all, but am comparing it with the very large number of safe abortions that are carried out.

You are making my point here. There ARE complications from abortions. Whether they are secondary or directly is irrelevant. There are more than enough cases to say that they are not as safe as they are touted to be. This website has a lot of news about this: Life News. A recent case in which a doctor in Massachusetts is being sued for killing a woman during an abortion. And where are the studies for the after effects of abortion? There is a thing known as post abortion syndrome, which a lot of women have reported as having. Abortion is not just a physical issue, but an emotional one. Or women who find out they are sterile after an abortion? We are not just talking about the extreme cases where women have died.

There is another issue about abortion I wish to bring up. You say there are 80+ cases seen a day where you worked. And from what I remember, the clinic operated 7 days a week. If we take a conservative estimate of 80 abortions performed per day, 7 days a week, that comes to approximately 560 abortions a week and about 2,240 abortions per month. That is around 26,880 abortions per year for one clinic!! Fucking hell! No one can convince me that those numbers are due to a rape or contraception failing. I think that is an outrageous amount of babies being aborted.

I am sure it is not about having the perfect bany, although maybe for some people it might be. Remember how Dave has a medical condition? You know how badly it affects his life? Well if he passed that on genetically, there is a risk than any offspring could have it worse, tumours everywhere, be blind and disabled, in loads of pain, and essentially looking like the elephant man. That is NOT quality of life, and I think it comes down to the quality of life. Nobody wants to be a vegetable or be so ill they do not want to live. I think these cases are mostly about not wanting to put another living person through suffering. Dave had said to me many times that he wishes he had been aborted because of his condition (that made me so sad). Again, pre 1967, mother forced over from Ireland in shame etc. So awful. So, as well as my own reasons, I knew it would not be fair to give birth to a baby that might end up so very sick and in pain.

I do remember the reasons for what happened with you and Dave. And can also understand your point. But, yours and Dave's case was a rare one. And I am also sorry Dave feels the way he does because if he was aborted, then he would not be here. And that would not be a good thing.

I do think it is awful that your mom was forced over here from Ireland due to ignorance. Why is it the woman is expected to be shamed and suffer while the man can do as he pleases with no consequences?
