Bits of Happy Feet

Jan 05, 2007 11:55

I am just awful with this journal thing.  I do it all in my head.  "Okay," I'll say to myself,  "I just saw Happy Feet--I'll go write about it in livejournal." Or ,"Ten interesting things happened today, maybe I can post." But no, I never do.

So backwards backup all the way to Happy Feet, which my daughter took me to for Christmas the day after ( Read more... )

Loved the sight of dancing penguins, Alyon, but did notice many camera moves that reminded me of the LotR films. I know that Peter Jackson borrowed stuff from other film-makers, too, so I suppose it's all fair. And the HF shots that looked familiar weren't anything near to what they did in the Narnia film for much more direct ripping off of LotR film material ( ... )

"Thought the ending was rushed and unconvincing - the part where it shows humans becoming interested in the plight of the penguins - very newsreelish and as if they felt obligated to put something environmentally conscious in there. But I loved the visuals in the scenes with the detritus of human beings - the huge machines, the junk, the threatening sounds. Great ( ... )

I didn't mean to slight the film's environmental message, Alyon. I thought it was good and was built solidly into the plot from early in the film. I just felt that the way they actually conceived the build-up to the end (with all the simulated news broadcasts, etc.) seemed rushed and perfunctory. Like they had looked at their watches and said, "Hey! We're running out of time! How can we push this through to the finale ( ... )

Ditto about the ending. And you have a good point about people responding to animals that they find attractive and being much more willing to work on their behalf. Now with polar bears endangered--and polar bears have a romantic image in the imagination of humans--there might be more attention paid to global warming. It's easier to fire up compassion when you see a clip of a polar bear drowning because he/she can't find an icefloat--than numbers about frogs, snails and fish.

So, yay for penguins dancing!! Yay for all sorts of reasons, but among them would be if dancing penguins warm the hearts of people and get them thinking about other issues, too, then that can only be good!
Thanks, Mechtild!

No slapping from me at all, Alyon. ;-)
I found the mix of penguin musical and environment film a bit odd. But the animation was very beautiful!

Lovely how much can be done with white.
Yes! It's such an amazing colour, isn't it?
(Some say it is NOT a colour, but I beg to differ!! :-D)

It was beautiful!! I think I should watch the movie again--I liked it well enough for a second viewing. I love to see that camera angles etc were also very well put together. Okay, now I'm getting bizarre images of mumble morphing into Frodo in the snow. Okay--I admit that Frodo in the snow sort of makes my eyes glisten. Wouldn't he be a bit confused to suddenly come to consciousness among a bunch of penguins?? My mind does roam....
