Seattle is going crazy!!
I was at an election party downtown and it was such a blast. Hosted by Dan Savage, international sex advice columnist, also editor of our weekly newspaper, the Stranger. Oh my, it was a blast. Our room was at capacity and lots couldn't get in. but when we left, we found the party was everywhere. All over the streets of Seattle are filled with noise and parades and people. Our city is very liberal, and the collective happiness is amazing. Thousands of people are clogging the streets tonight dancing and drumming and singing and beeping their horns. Street kids and people in suits are high fiving each other. I'm home with the local news on, and they are still out there. It's the best. :)
(now just crossing my fingers that prop 8 that would repeal the right of gays to marry in California is defeated. That one isn't looking so good...was in a room with lots of people--and I have friends-- very invested in that outcome)
But aside from that concern, all else looks pretty good.
Obamamania. I am extemely pleased that messages I've seen from around the world indicate that with this vote, America might redeem itself with our international neighbors. My idealism feels so well-fed tonight.
