Cockels and mussels alive alive-o

There is an awesome fish mongers and fish and chip shop on Acland street that always has amazing salmon in the window. I had a craving so I went for a walk to St Kilda after my guilty pleasure - oysters . I also bought half a kilo of mussels, since Mauricio and I have been enjoying them so much at the Prahran market. I ate the delicious salty oysters with some gluten free sweet potato chips on the beach.

Once I was home looked up how to cook the mussels. I had no idea guys... YOU COOK THEM ALIVE!

They would only die if I threw them in the trash and I already had them in my house, so I didn't think throwing them out was worth it. I cleaned and de-bearded them as gently as I could to prevent alarming the little suckers. As I held each mussel I imagined them in there. Alive. I imagined I could hear them talking to me - begging, like the scene from Disney's Alice in Wonderland.

I am the worst vegetarian ever.

(I cooked them in olive oil, margarine, left over olive pasta sauce, basil pesto, chilli powder, smoked paprika, ground cloves and black salt. It was beyond delicious.)
