I met Mauricio through okcupid. I was the first person he met from the internet, and he I. There is a section on your profile- "you should message me if...". Mine says I'm not looking for someone whose mum thinks they are special, I'm looking for someone whose friends think they are special. Be unique! His says message me if you have a piercing in your elbow, if you have a cat I can cuddle and if you have a trampoline in your back yard. He has several photos of him jumping in the air and trampolines are one of his favourite things.
So, this Wednesday, inspired by Nat's trampoline date, I blindfolded Mauricio, led him to my car, and drove to Bounce in Glen Iris. I got kind of lost on the way - I blame apple maps. So I did a lot of very sharp and rushed u-turns, which made Mauricio a little nauseous! This part of the date was fun and interesting. Mauricio would get freaked out by the sounds of trucks and cards, due to heightened senses, and especially when i had to slam on the breaks because of other cars.
We eventually got to Bounce which is a giant trampoline park with trampolines on the walls and everything. I led him slowly up the stairs and over to the mezzanine where we could view the entire park before taking off the blindfold! He was very happy and very surprised! As was I when the attendants informed me that they couldn't find my booking. It turns out I had made it for the day before, so, uh, 10 points for organisation. But the attendant had seen the trouble i went to to get him there so he let us in anyway and did not make us pay again. Most of the time the place is booked out so we were lucky!
There are four sections at bounce. The first is a run up trampoline in front of a foam pit that you can do backflips into. The second is a trampoline and foam pit area with a wall that you can jump off, if you are experienced, and do tricks on. The third is a free jumping area with trampolines on the walls and a few other things like a basketball ring and some smaller platforms to jump off. The last is the dodgeball section, which was, by far, mau's favourite section. In fact, Mauricio loved playing dodgeball so much that he made two children cry by throwing the ball at them so hard. One ended up with a blood nose and couldn't do any more trampolining! Uh... oops! Turns out this man might be a little competitive! ;)
We bounced and bounced and bounced for the hour that I paid for. I could have gone for another half an hour to an hour, but had heard it was really tiring. I'm impressed with my fitness level! We were covered in sweat by the end, and had an icecream. He was so happy and impressed with my idea and i got all the loves :).
We decided to go to dinner and Mauricio not only drove (the left side of the street is new for him) but we had a Spanish session on the way. We went to the new Hare Krishna restaurant in St Kilda that he had found. We frequent places like this and have just found out that they do not use any onion or garlic in their cooking - which is perfect for fructose pussies like me. It is also cheap, all you can eat, delicious, and made with love.
We ate outside and witnessed a peculiar site; some sort of Australian bird was hanging upside down from it's tree branch, like a bat! It was awesome! It was doing it for ages too, while the wind was moving the branch around considerably. The other birds crowded around and seemed to be intimidating it. One bird even came and perched on the same branch. Bat bird was all like "fuck the police!". The other birds did not seem to like his individuality and the bird who was threatening him started bouncing on the branch making it move quite wildly, until Bat bird was finally forced to fly off. Poor bat bird.
To follow this we drove a little closer to the beach as we only had an hour park and wandered down in time to see the sun set. We sat on a nice powdery part of St Kilda beach and basically shared some hugs and kisses and love. We also spent some time trying to take photos of our jumping silhouettes with the sunset in the background. I took off my top as I was wearing a sports bra. No shoes and no shirt - it's the way to be!
After this we took a walk down the pier. The colours of the sun setting were still in the sky. At the end of the pier is a semi natural rock formation where some penguines live in their burrows. We had been there before but had not seen anything. This time we saw several. Mauricio was pretty excited to have his first penguin citing! He was like, "what are penguins doing here? This isn't Antarctica!". I told him I would take him to Phillip island for the Penguin Parade someday.
We went home to a sheesha and to watch some more of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert! This movie has actually turned out to be a great insight to Australian culture, and in particular, Australian speech. I picked it from a list of Aussie movies to watch because of the crossdressing. It's actually aged really well.
It was perfect. The most perfect thing was definitely the company.
