On couchsurfers, connections, and on being broke. (rescued post!)

The other night I hung out with Divin from number 12. He has been calling and messaging me, trying to get me to hang out but i wasn't sure about him. He is from Kerala, a part of India that I really want to go to. He told me about Kerala and I shared some travel stories too. After that we got stoned and listened to dark side of the moon, as he had never listened to it before. Wow - it was really something! After that we listened to some of my favourite Beatles songs - Tomorrow never knows, she said she said, and ****. The marijuana really effected the music and it sounded so good that we played some of these songs over and over on repeat! We drank red wine and danced and sang! It was so much fun and I really felt that we had a deep connection. At one point he kind of came and sat close to me, I think he was trying to make a move, so I grabbed my stuff and got the hell out of there! Sometimes it is hard when you just want to connect with people without unwanted advances.

The next night I hung out with Fin. He took me to a place in St kilda called claypots, which specialise in seafood. It was the best snapper I have ever had. The place was a little pricey but the claypots were decently priced - only $20. After this we went back to my place to meet my first couchsurfer (other than mauricio). HIs name is Kahl and he used to work as a physicicst in the imaging department of a hospital. He knew what an evoked potential is and I got to explain my phd project to him. I figured the there of us would make a nice group - all science geeks. He is an American with an American accent but who gerw up in france and syria. He exchanged his physics work for a camera and has been traveling the world taking professional shots for a bout a year now. He showed us some of his shots and they were amazing. The conversation focused on travelling, and on Australia. We watched the men who stare at goats, which Mauricio and i hired from the city library (you can do that for free!), and ate some cake that Fin bought. Then we all went to sleep and in the morning Kahl thanked me a lot for the experience, saying that he would not forget it. Isn't it wonderful to be able to give a gift without a single dollar? I have two more couchsurfers coming this week.

I have been exceptionally broke lately. Normally I manage to stay afloat, but last week i clean ran out of money. Fin bought me dinner Wednesday night, and on Thursday Amanda hosted a meat and salads provided couchsurfing BBQ. What a champ! She even put aside some chocolate mouse for me so that i didnt miss out when everyone else had profiteroles. There weren't many couchsurfers there, and I brought mauricio with me. Now he is couchsurfing with Amanda. Thursday I had left overs from Amanda and on Saturday I went to the Sacred Heart Mission for free lunch. There are many places around Melbourne that you can go for a free or very cheap meal. Often you pay less than the cost of cooking. Mauricio invited me to a poly picnic and he brought the food. We went to the fairfeild boathouse park but never managed to find the picnic. This worked out well as we had the opportunity to have great conversations and enjoy each other's company in the park. Later that day we went to the free stonnington city council jazz session in the park and then back to my house for more hugs and kisses. I invited some couchsurfers to the jazz session but none of them turned up. This was fine by us - We shared a fantastic day!.

Perhaps this isn't a starvation economy after all.
