there is this function called "looking around" on wechat which lists a bunch of app users around your vicinity. having put locations on, not sure how much detail is revealed, im able to see how close an app user is to me. had lunch with cheng and he showed me the function and told me maybe I should get out of my comfort zone and meet new people/friends that I would never have through my group of friends. who knows, I might meet some interesting people.
so in the past few days ive connected, or more like theyve made contact, with a few guys and girls, but most of them are from china - wechat is popular in china. so I've probably doubled my mandarin in two nights. had a conversation with a few guys living in Beijing and Fuzhou. nothing complicated, just small talk from the messages they left in drift bottles ...
there is however a guy called 阿明, Ming, living in an area near northfield and he wants to catch up to practice his english. im pretty alert and know this is a typical case of "stranger danger" - he could be a psycho. I wish Seth or John was here then I will have someone to accompany me to meet this guy. at the moment I'm just chatting with him in mandarin. he in english. I've made sure I haven't exposed any of my details like where I live or work, but it'll be hard if I meet up with him. he'll know what I look like.
I called Kun on viber and told him a bit about Ming. Ming has this feminine voice when he speaks in mandarin that reminds me of Kuns. it has a softer tone than his mandarin. quite surprising for one who lives in beijing.
it's amazing how many of these guys and girls want to see a photo of me so they can put a photo to a name, if you have me on facebook you'll see my avatar name, otherwise you can comment or pm me if you want to add me on wechat. of course, I haven't provided any with a a photo of myself. who knows what theyll do? jack off to it or do a voodoo curse or something? *shudders* who knows.
it's been interesting though and reminds me how much I did NOT enjoy speaking to people on ICQ or mIRC when it was the trend back then. I know, I'm
pretty boring.
