School
I was blocked at the gate by security when i went to school for my classes today. Yeah, blocked. Not stopped, blocked. Barred-gate-shoved-close-to-my-face blocked.
The reason? I was wearing shorts. What a sacrilege. Apparently, there is a dress code banning shorts in class except for physical ed. Like I, newly recruited and uninformed faculty would know. They didn't even have an orientation for me or the other teachers.
But come on, no shorts? In a tropical country? Where temps rarely go below 90??? Eff you!
There is no other place in the country that i know where they incubate the worst in what it is to be Filipino than at Negros Oriental State University. (ugh!) more on this later. I havent slept in 18 hours and i have more classes this afternoon and then the graveyard after.
As for the dress code, i'm wearing sweatpants over my shorts to enter the gate, and then removing them and wearing shorts to class. I am not going to be inconvenienced by the heat when i'm trying to mold young minds. Tell me i can't wear shorts only after you've found ways to keep temps under 75, or when you've airconditioned all the rooms. Hear?
