A couple of weeks ago my sister Sarah and I exchanged emails about what we wanted for our birthdays (Hers is the the fourth, mine the sixth, of September). I told her I just wanted a book, any kind of book, a novel she thought I might like, a knitting book, a trivia book, anything, really. On Friday I got her package and an email telling me to wait until the sixth to open it. And I was so good, I managed to hold out until about two hours ago. She sent me three books, one of which is Hunger Games, by Suzanne Collins which I literally had not heard about until this afternoon when
miss_bennie posted about how she's reading the trilogy. It's not a book I would ever pick up, it feels like some kind of post-apocalyptic sci-fi thing which is not at all my cup of tea but both Sarah and her husband read and loved it. I just spent the last two hours reading the first 100 pages and I cannot stop thinking about it. I'll probably post more about it as I continue reading, but if anyone's read it, I'd love to know what you think since I have never heard of it until today.
I'm without my computer again, have been since Monday and will be until next Friday and I don't have a tv in my studio so aside from scrapbooking, reading is what's left to entertain me. I finally got a library card and have been spending a lot of time at the beautiful new library around the corner but I'm ashamed at how little reading I've done in the last few years. Aside from new Janet Evanovich, 12th rereads of the Harry Potter series and new Susan Elizabeth Philips, I haven't read anything.
My cousin loaned me a book a couple of weeks ago, One Day by David Nicholls that I couldn't put down, I read it in two days which is unheard of for me if I have the choice between my computer and a book. And I hate that about myself, I used to read all the time, especially in high school. Now I feel like an illiterate boob.
Id love any and all book recommendations if you have any.
