high maintenance dog

today is my second day of freedom from any job or work, but i have probably spent 70% of my time looking after Chester.

This morning, I realised that I needed 1 full hour to walk him, and then feed him. Chester did take a longer walk today, but it still took one entire hour!

The rest of the morning was then spent trying to put his ear medication into his ear again. This has gone on for the rest of the day, aside from me taking a break to go meet Eng Guan for tea/lunch at 3:30p. Otherwise, before that, all my time was spent struggling with Chester, trying to stick the long funneled bottle into his ear canal, to ensure that some medication goes in.

I tried various ways to hold him. To hold him from behind so he cannot wiggle out, and then to carry him up in the air, and also using the sofa as an assistant. I realise that this cannot be done alone. I need some help. Nobody is home though...

This evening, I went out to Watsons, and bought the following items for Chester
  1. Refresh Tears - lubricant eye drops from Allergan
  2. a bottle of saline to clean his eyes
  3. Kordel's Acid Free C 1000mg
Yes, the above is for Chester.

Let me compile a list of supplements Chester's on right now
  1. IN good skin
  2. Glucosamine
  3. Flex Seed oil for Omega 3
  4. SC108 Ossification - Homeopathic remedy for cats and dogs
  5. SC114 Nervous System - Homeopathic remedy for cats and dogs (see www.supra-cell.de)
  6. Hialid 0.1 ophthalmic solution (for his eyes)
  7. Gentapro Eye drops (for his eyes - anitbiotics)
  8. Meidcated Ear drops
  9. Medicated skin shampoo
And this is above the 3 items that I've just bought for Chester.

I think I'm exhausted having to keep track of what goes where and at what time!

One observation: Dr Lauw said yesterday that the infection in his ears and on his skin is from the same micro organism. I suspect that it is due to the following actions on Chester's part. When his ears get itchy, he scratches it with his hind paws. He then proceeds to suck his hind paws. The bacteria or fungus probably lives both in his mouth, on his feet, as well as in his ears. I think that as he sucks his paws, it just helps the fungs or whatever micro organism continue to grow.  I think we need a multi pronged approach to solve this issue.
  • Clean his ears
  • put tea tree oil on his paws so that he will not suck them
I hope to enforce this ASAP, as well as hope my parents can really help when they get back from Japan!
