Rewatch: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
I love the name "Diagon Alley". It's like not only the street is hidden from plain sight, but also the name.
The man at the station is the same person Harry asked about the platform nine and three quarters. Considering the fact that no one tells Muggle-born wizards how to get there, people working at the station must be asked about it dozens of times on September 1st.
Ron is twelve, but can drive a car. Why is driving always so easy on tv? I guess it is easier to drive in the air, with no lanes and other cars, but he's fine on the ground, too.
I like that Rowling introduces a person or object not in the book they're important in, but earlier, like the Whomping Willow. It doesn't look like she makes things up as she goes.
We follow Harry's point of view and don't know about things Harry isn't aware of, so I'm curious: what happened when Hermione, Ginny and others noticed Harry and Ron weren't on the train? Did Dumbledore know where they were and since they found a solution on their own, decided not to act? I can't remember if there was more about it in the book. I don't blame Snape for telling Harry he'd be expelled if he was in Slytherin. I think this is the thing that started that trope in fanfiction that Snape would be the only person who could teach Harry to follow the rules. I'd like to read about Harry ending up in Slytherin. Why did I never find a ood fic with Harry in Slytherin that wouldn't be seven books long?
The trio's faces when Snape said they could be innocent! And Snape said he noticed Harry missing dinner. In the book, he's the one who finds him and Ron after they arrive to the castle. And of course he's Lockhart's "assistant" at the Dueling Club. Snape watches over him, and Harry doesn't even notice.
Lockhart has different robes in every scene. I love those robes.
Why would you ever need to change an animal into a cup?!
Why did Lockhart agree to teach at Hogwarts? He knew students and teachers would eventually notice he's a bad wizard. Did he plan to cast Obliviate on everyone? When McGonnagall and Snape clearly mock him after Ginny is kidnapped, he tries to escape, so maybe that was his plan for difficult situations.
Snape is the person who shows Harry Expeliarmus for the first time. It's the most important spell for Harry, he kills Voldemirt with it. Did he say thank you? Of course he didn't!
Ron uses a broken wand on classes for the entire year and no one says a thing. It's dangerous and it's a miracle, really, that he never did any serious damage. If I remember correctly, it was one of his brothers' wand, and when he got his own next year, he got better at charms. Or was it Neville?
The actor who plays Crabbe is brilliant. When he plays Ron playing Crabbe, his face expressions are priceless.
"Dumbledore, it's time for you to disappear."
"Why?"
"It's time for the final act in the movie - Harry's alone battle with Voldemort."
What did I say about the bathrooms?! A student died there. A chamber with a monster is hidden there. Never go alone to the bathroom.
I also like the actor who plays Tim Riddle. He's the best Tom. The one in Half-blood Prince who who asks Slughorn about horcruxes doesn't seem as charismatic as Tom was supposed to be.
"I am Lord Voldemort" was such a powerful reveal fifteen years ago :) Oh, the letters in the air would be so cheap now.
"Master was given a sock! Master gave it to Dobby! Dobby is free!" Is there a cuter scene in the entire saga?
Next time:
Harry and Hermiona go timey-wimey before it's cool.
Snape gets his first and last onscreen Defence Against Dark Art lesson.
The way Knight Bus is driven exactly like the buses I've been on in London.
