Pimpin' the Mcshep Match

Aug 30, 2009 07:15

I'm so diggin' this year's mcshep_match! So many terrific entries so far! You've go your angst, your animal transformations, WWII AU, apocafic, ANd of course, romance! And all of it, every last little word of fic and squiggle of art, is centered around John and Rodney. Such a great week of McSheppy goodness so far.

lavvyan has pimped out her team's entries here! So, when you're done looking over this list, cruise over there and check out hers. I mean, I'm on Team Peace, but dangit if some of those Warmongers aren't turning out some TERRIFIC stories too!

But here! mcshep_peace's entries. Go forth! Read! Comment! Vote in the polls! ♥

Title: Atmosphere
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: None
Summary: Nowhere else to go but up.
Why I liked it: It's a study of their friendship though the most intense moments. It's John and Rodney finding a place and time to just be. And then to just be together.

Title: The Ingenious Dr. Rodney McKay of Atlantis
Rating: PG
Warnings: None
Summary: Who would have thought that defeating the Wraith was the least of Rodney's worries?
Why I liked it: Woolsey is, while behind the scenes, so totally great! John is palpably afraid of something and Rodney figures it out. And Rodney? Is his usual blustery, incontrovertible self. And the moment when he gets Sheppard? It's out of nowhere, but totally right and perfect. Who knew that is what it would take to calm a nervous Sheppard down?

Title: A Heart Needs a Home
Rating: NC-17
Warnings: None, some McKay/Keller
Summary: Sometimes when a door closes, a closet opens
Why I liked it: Because it really explored Rodney's feelings for his team AND gives him a chance to voice those feelings, finally. There's a beautiful moment between him and Teyla that just..yeah, is very satisfactory. So Rodney has to make a choice, stay on Earth or go back to Pegasus. And the thing that makes him decide is something that we all know, but he did not. Such a perfect moment between him and John.

Title: That Will Break You
Pairing: McKay/Sheppard (+ McKay/Keller)
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: Canonical character death, spoilers including dialogue for "The Last Man")
Summary: Life can break your bones. It can also stitch you back together.
Why I liked it: Atlantis goes to ground to avoid a new and deadly enemy. Earth is no more. John, trying to be everything everyone expects of him isolates himself and they all make a life. Life goes on. Then, for one, it doesn't. And Rodney must deal with his loss, and he needs his friend John in order to do so. This one is a story about life and hope and moving on and coming together.

Art Title: Unsent Letters from the Water Planet
Rating: PG
Warnings: None
Summary: Rodney is bad with vacations, even forced, our-jumper-burned-out-on-Waterworld vacations. Before too long he starts going through his backlog of journals, writing dead letters to old academic rivals to the tune of "Sometimes I get shot at, but my life is still better than yours! Also, your theory is wrong." John's just there to make sure he doesn't leave anything out...
Why I like it: The conversation between John and Rodney is priceless, told in simple images. That John is in the water and Rodney is up, high and dry, is just so them. The lonely sock on the line. The snorkeling equipment on the post, and the roadsigns to places not taken. It's a neat little snapshot of what could be.

Title: Pulled Out From Inside
Rating: NC-17
Warnings: Manipulative sex
Summary: While exploring an uninhabited planet for future recreational use, John's team gets kidnapped, and he must fight his way to the outpost beyond the Ancient City to take back the team that was stolen.
Why I like it: John's bored, and his team is bored. Teyla's takin' it out on the soldiers - even the Athosians - and Ronon's..well, Ronon is Ronon. During a routine mission that goes all kinds of wrong, John figures out what he wants and what he won't settle for.

That's just SO FAR! Keep checking mcshep_match throughout this month for more Mcsheppy goodness! Lot's more artists and writers still to come.
