Indiana Jones and the Dial it back

For reasons I wont go into, the person I saw indiana jones wirh is unable to discuss. So mild spoilers/complaints

The train drove me crazy!
You know how in movies, as characters move up & down a moving train the director makes an effort to show whether the characters are moving up the train or down the train?
Yeah, that kinda flew out the window.
Which I found very distracting. Right up there with my inner voice, "Jones is not not not someone you want to partner with."

I had read somewhere that Sallah was computerized from old footage? Because the sctor had died? So I got sad every time i saw him.
He is actually alive & filmed. But now I'm sad going, "wtf happened to you??"

New girl is so Marion

Marion is still gorgeous. Those eyes!

There was a Han Solo call back.

There was a call back to all the other movies in (somewhat) subtle ways. Chasing the diamond, Marion kidnapping, etc

There are some plot...doings. "McGuffin you say? You mean this? I shall expound upon it for the audience."

"Are you trying to sneak away? I shout your name in the middle of a crowd!"

A reviewer said the movie had no humor. This is true. (They also said they wanted Indy to take on the entire german military. Indy alone won the whole war..?)

Not for nothing but there was a lot of dead air. Like, we're not developing characters. We're not moving the plot along. We're not building tension. The dangers are CGI, which are boring. "Look out! a disney cartoon villian!" The chases are CGI, which are boring. Is anyone worried about a character in a video game? No.
It's like someone is trying to tell you a griping tale & their kid is there going, "He didnt die!"
"Yes, honey. We can all see that."
"The other guy didnt die either!"
"No, honey. I was just getting to that."
"The truck got smashed!" "Honey, just let me tell the story, ok?"

The ending was dragged out WAY TOO LONG. Exact same lines over & over & over.
I guess the pacing over all was lousy? The chases felt pointless. It needed Steven at the helm. Maybe.
Like, the chase in the city? Indy movie #1 there were different challenges at each turn. A fruit vender, whatever, turn or crash thru. And you knew where the bad guys were ahead of Indy. This was just..Turn. Turn. Oh surprise view of bad guy, and turn. It needed an overhead shot to show us the twisty little roads, the end point of the maze, and where the players were at that point. Kinda thing.
Indy, who hasnt left home in years, still knows the city better than the people who LIVE there? Nothing has changed? No one has new market stall, laundry, party going? Indy is never wrong?

They got around Ford(and Indy)'s age by having a lot of vehicles involved. Which is clever!

Good movie
