Here is the 13th chapter. It’s split up in two parts because of change of POV. I hope you like it :D

Part A

Dominic’s POV

“There is something I need to tell you.”

“Go on then,” I said. I had felt Matthew suddenly tensing; I was afraid there was something wrong.

“You probably know it already, but I think you should hear it from me as well. But please, please don’t leave me,” he begged.

“I’m not going anywhere,” I assured him.

“Thanks,” Matt whispered. He sat up and looked directly at me as he continued to talk. “You know I used to be a part of Resist, don’t you?”

I nodded in answer.

“Thought so,” he continued. “Well, then you know what Resist is, right? I helped Resist get attention. The government wasn’t too happy about it and decided to take down Resist by taking out the driving force: me. They tried to kill me, Dom. I was so scared. I was tied to a chair, had my hand cut open and was kicked in my back and stomach. I tried to escape, but when I did, I found myself face-to-face with a gun. I hit her in the back of her head out of panic. I didn’t mean to kill her! I swear I didn’t! It was an accident.”

Matt struggled as he spoke, the words clearly bringing back uncomfortable memories. When he reached the end of his story he broke down and cried as he repeated ‘I didn’t meant it’ over and over. I closed my arms around him in an attempt to comfort him. It hurt me to watch him like this, so fragile and scared.

“I know you didn’t mean it,” I said and hugged him tight.

“Don’t leave me, please Dom, don’t leave me,” Matt sobbed into my neck.

“I won’t leave you. Why would I do that?” I asked him.

He got out of my grip and looked at me with sad and hurt eyes. “Because everyone else did, everyone except Tom.”

“Well, then, I’m an exception like Tom. I’m not going anywhere Matt. I know you didn’t mean for it to happen. I know you’re not a murderer. I know you are wonderful person. I’m not leaving,” I said. I meant every word of it. “The past is the past, sometimes it is better to not think too much about the past. I know that from my own experience.”

“Annie?” he asked.

“Yes, but let’s not talk about her,” I answered. I didn’t want to bring her up, not now. “Let’s forget about the past for a bit and focus on the present and the future instead.”

“I understand,” Matt said. “Hey, how about you and I go on a proper date this evening?”
