Expiations

The car ride back to Puente Antiguo was a quiet one. Erik-who was sitting in the back with the two gods-watched in silence as Loki pressed himself against the larger man, his eye’s closed, and his breathing even. His eye’s softened slightly as he studied the younger of the two men, He could tell by the fit of his clothes that Loki was thinner than he had been. He was pale-well paler than was healthy-and had a rather gray tone to it, and under his eyes he had large black circles. He looked like he had been through shit, and only come out halfway. It made Erik want to know what the hell had happened to him, but he didn’t thinking asking would get him any points in either mans favor, so he remained quiet. Sighing he leaned back in his seat and glanced at the two girls in the front seat.

He couldn’t help but chuckle to himself as he watched as Darcy-not so subtlely glanced at the dark haired man. Between her little crush on Loki, and Jane’s little crush on Thor, Erik was going to have his hands full. Hopefully this wouldn’t cause a whole lot of unneeded trouble for him. But then again: ‘if wishes were fishes’.

Finally after what seemed like forever Jane pulled the car into the place they called workshop/home. As Jane parked the car, Erik watched as Thor glanced around, and then looked down at the younger man and ran a gentle finger down the side of his face. Loki stirred slightly, his green eyes opening and looking up into Thor’s blue. Erik watched for a minute longer before slipping out of the van, followed closely by Thor and Loki.

As soon as the two men were out of the car, and had stretched out all their kinks, Jane was on them like fire. She walked over, and stood in front of them, her arms folded in front of her chest. Even though she was more then a head shorter than either man, her presence was enough to have them watching her with a hint of weariness in their eyes.

Darcy glanced at her, and then at the boys. A smile crept on her face, and she walked over to her little desk area, “Hey Jane,” She called, “Maybe you should give them a little time to breath before you go all psycho bitch, and super science nerd on them,”

Jane glanced at Darcy throwing her a glare that could kill. Her shoulders hunched and she sighed softly looking down at her feet. She knew that if she did go all ‘psycho bitch and super nerd’ on them right away she would get no where. So after heaving another sigh she looked up at them and flashed them a slightly apologetic smile, “Are you guys hungry?” She asked, “I’m sure Darcy, and Erik wouldn’t mind a late dinner, and I’m sure the diner is still open.”

Darcy ran over to Jane and smiled at the two men, “I’m starving.” She said, “Let’s go!”

Erik-who had been watching the whole interaction-chuckled softly and shook his head, “I wouldn’t mind a bite to eat.”

Jane sighed and shook her head, “So what to you say?”

Thor nodded slowly, not sure how to take this whole situation so far. Midgard was a rather strange place, and the people were even stranger. “Okay,”

Jane nodded, and gestured for the two to follow. Darcy, and Erik taking up the rear.

Darcy watched in awe as Thor single-handedly ate a whole batch of pancakes, and more than a fair share of scrabbled eggs. Never in her life had she seen someone eat that much. It was half parts creepy, and half parts totally awesome.

One the other hand tough Jane, and Erik watched as Loki moved his food around his plate not eating anything. The smaller of the two men looked like he hadn’t eaten in days and it had both a bit worried. “Are you alright?” Erik finally asked.

Dull green eyes traveled up to meet Erik’s questioning gaze. He glanced back down at his food quickly before nodding. “I am well,” he said his voice barely a whisper.

Neither Erik, nor Jane believed that for a minute. Especially when Loki pushed away from the table-getting Thor’s attention-and excused himself. Thor started to stand to go after him, but Loki shook his head, and gave him a reassuring look, “I am well Thor,” he said slowly, “I just need a bit of air.”

Thor stared at him for a long moment before nodding and turning back to his food, eating it at a much more normal pace. Every once in a while he would flash a look at where Loki had disappeared to, but not once did he move to go after him.

When Thor was done eating He leaned back and regarded the three mortals that were sitting with him, “I suspect you wish to get information now?” Thor asked glancing at Jane with a knowing look.

Jane blushed and looked down at her coffee, “Yeah...that would be nice...”

Thor nodded, “What do you wish to know?”

Jane blinked and stared at Thor for a long moment before speaking, “Well first off I want to know where the heck you two came from...How did you get in the tornado?”

Thor smiled, “Well...we are not of this world. Both Loki and I are from Asgard.”

“Asgard?” Jane said titling her head.

Erik smacked her shoulder lightly, “Jane.” He whispered glancing at Thor, “These are the stories I grew up with. This guys a quack!”

Thor shook his head, “I assure you that I am not as you say ‘a quack’. Everything I tell you is true.’ The man glanced out the window hoping to see a glimpse of his brother, but it seemed the man was gone, “The tornado as you called it was actually the bride between out Asgard, and Midgard.”

“A bridge?!” Jane was curious now. “Like an Einstein-Rosen bridge?”

Thor gave her a strange look, “Actually more like a rainbow bridge,” he said.

Jane’s face fell, “A rainbow bridge?”

Thor nodded.

“Alright, alright,” Erik said waving his hand slightly, “So if you come from Asgard, and you say you are Thor, and your...brother is Loki the that would make you the God of Thunder, and the God of Mischief.”

Thor nodded, “Yes,” His face pulled into a brilliant smile, “That is who we are.”

Erik leaned back in his chair, “Hmmm,” He murmured looking at Thor for a long moment. He didn’t believe the other man, and he really didn’t trust him. But there was something in him that caught his attention, “They why are you here?”

Thor’s face turned from light to dark in the blink of an eye. He looked out the window again, and this time didn’t look away, “We are here for our safely,” He said

“Whoa! Whoa!” Darcy said finally contributing to the conversation, “What do you mean for you safety?”

Thor glanced at her, “We are here because of something our father has done, that would hurt everything Loki, and I have built.”

“What do you mean?” Erik asked, “Are you saying you’re running from your father?”

Thor nodded, “Father is a very powerful man,” he said, “We were at war with a race of Dark Elves, and they out numbered us...he knew we could not win so he called their king to try and find a diplomatic way to ensure peace between our realms. He chose Loki.”

Jane titled her head, “What do you mean?”

Thor turned his attention on away from the window, and regarded her, “He chose Loki’s innocence. Since then Loki has not been the same. I fear for him. He has only just started sleeping, but I am unable to get him to eat. What the dark elf king has done to him is beyond forgiveness.” Thor took a deep breath, “We found out not long a day ago, that father has decided to give Loki’s hand to the Dark Elf king. Mother could not stand for this so she convinced the gate keeper to let us use the bifrost...or your bridge to come here.”

The three mortals were silent for a long moment. None of them not knowing what to make of this story. Finally, after about five minutes of shocked silence Darcy spoke, “Wow.” She said shaking her head, “That sucks big hairy monkey balls. Your father must really suck it.”

It had been a long time since Loki had taken this form. He didn’t usually make a habit of being a dog of any kind. Usually a cat would suit his needs but he wanted to run, and there was nothing like running as a wolf.

Not only had he needed to get away from the stench of the food, but he had also just wanted peace. As he was running through the desert a thought stuck him. Thor had left Mjolnir. Had the knock on the head caused him to go dumb? It didn’t seem he even really realized it either. So Loki decided to take a visit back to where they had landed and make sure the hammer was still there. He wouldn’t be able to lift it-since it only responded to Thor, but he would be able to protect it till Thor went looking for it.

When Loki arrived at the place they had landed he spotted Mjolnir he trotted over to it and laid down beside it, head on his paws. This was the only moment of peace he had, had since finding out that not only was he not Asgardian, but also promised to Arasi. He had been happy for the distraction, but now he needed time to sort through all his feeling. He felt so confused, hurt, angry, scared, sad, and betrayed.

A low whine escaped his maw. This was all too much for him. Loki had always prided himself in being able to sort through the most difficult of things, but this...this situation he was in, was to fucking difficult for him.

Jane seemed a never ending stream of questions and Thor was getting tiered. He had thought she would at least wait till the next day to throw all the questions at him. But no she just kept asking. Erik wasn’t much better either. He kept questioning his sanity, and who he really was. It was all quite annoying, and tiring. Many times during the night he wished Loki was with him. The man could stop a conversation in its tracks with a well placed look. Thor did not have that kind of talent so he sat there resigned to answer all there question.

“So...if you’re the ‘God of Thunder’ as you say you are then where’s your mighty hammer?” Erik asked with a raised brow as they headed back to the workshop.

Thor gasped and looked around him. He had forgotten Mjolnir! “Shit,” He cursed under his breath, before holding out his hand calling the hammer to him. He must have dropped it when Jane had hit him with the car.

Jane, Darcy, and Erik all watched him with a confused look. “Uh...Thor?” Darcy asked, “What are you doing?”

The man glanced back at her, “Calling Mjolnir.”

“Meowmeow?” She asked tilting his head, “What’s MeowMeow?”

Thor flashed her a look before looking a head of him. “There look,” he said gesturing to a tiny back spot in the night sky that seemed to be coming towards them.

“Uh...Thor?” Jane and Darcy said as they took a step back grabbing onto Erik.

Thor just smiled and opened up his hand as the hammer flew into it. He turned back to the stunned humans and held out the hammer for them to see, “This is Mjolnir.”

They all blinked, and looked from Thor, to the hammer. Finally Erik took a step forward and examined the hammer. “Let me see that,” he grumbled reaching to take it from Thor. This wasn’t Mjolnir. It was just some crazy person’s replica...a damn good one though.

“Uh...” Thor stared at the man, “You won’t be able to lift it,” he said glancing down at the hammer.

Erik scoffed and reached for the hammer. It left off a low hum, but Erik ignored it, and wrapped his hands around the hilt. Thor stared at him for a long moment before releasing the hammer from his grip. It fell to the ground immediately, and despite Erik’s best efforts he couldn’t lift it.

Behind him Darcy laughed, “Maybe he really is the God of Thunder,”

Erik threw her a look, before sighing and shaking his head. “Maybe...”

“C’mon guys lets get home,” She said gesturing for them to head back to the workshop. Erik followed Jane quickly-nursing his wounded pride-while Darcy hung back and talked to Thor.

“So the God of Thunder eh?” She asked smiling up at him, “I guess that means Loki is really the God of Mischief?”

Thor nodded, glad for the change of questions. Darcy was light and fun loving. He was sure he could get a long with her very well, while Loki got along with Jane, and Erik who were more scientific, and knowledgeable.

He and Darcy were just entering the workshop, when Jane and Erik let out a scream. “OHMYGOD!” Jane screamed.

“What the hell is that thing doing in the workshop?!” Erik shouted his arms around Jane, and pulling her back.

Darcy, and Thor exchanged a look before running to see what had got Jane and Erik so worked up. Inside the workshop, lying down beside the van was a medium sized black wolf. Darcy squeaked behind him, and pulled out her taser. “What the hell!?”

Thor shook his head and smiled. “Do not fear mortals,” He said glancing back at the three. “It is Loki.”

“Loki?!” Jane screamed, “How the hell is that Loki? He was human last time we saw him!”

“He can change his from.”

“What?!”

The wolf lifted his muzzle of the ground, and regarded them all with and long look, before standing, shaking it’s self off, and walking over to Thor. Everyone took a step back beside Thor, and watched as Thor smiled fondly at the animal, and stroking his head softly.

“Hello brother.”

The wolf snorted. A shudder ran though the wolves body, and then rather than a wolf being in front of Thor, there was Loki. Darcy, Jane, and Erik all gasped but the younger man ignored them.

“Hello Thor,”

“Where did you go?” Thor asked his brows pinching together.

“I went for a run...I had to figure a few things out. Then I realized you forgot Mjolnir.” he said glancing back at the hammer that sat beside Thor.

The larger man laughed and scratched the back of his head, “Yeah...”

“You need to remember things better brother,” He sighed as he pushed himself into a standing position.

Thor grinned and stood, “I am truly sorry brother,”

Loki glanced back at the man and shook his head, “I highly doubt that.” he said before turning to the three who were giving him a shocked look. “I am sorry for scaring you.” The words were said with the air of an aristocrat, and there was even a little bow too.

Darcy blushed and quickly looked down at the ground. Jane blinked a few times before smiling and waving it off. Erik just huffed, and turned with a mumbled, “I’m going to bed.”

“I think that’s a good idea,” Jane said covering her mouth, as she yawned. “Here I’ll show you were you can sleep until we get something more permanent.”

Loki, and Thor followed Jane up to the roof, and gestured to the lawn chairs. “I’ll go get you some blankets. I hope this is okay.”

Thor nodded, “This is perfect thank you.” He said politely. He knew that this was how things were going to have to be for a while. They were not in Asgard anymore, and he was not a prince here.

He watched as Jane left before turning to Loki. The younger man was sitting on one of the chairs and staring up at the sky. “Midgard is a strange place,” he said looking at the other man.

Thor nodded, “It is...but mother said it was safe...”

The younger man nodded, “Yes...I know.” He sighed as he laid back, “But I do miss Asgard...and it hasn’t even been a day.”

Thor walked over to where Loki was laying and kneeled down beside him. He ran a hand through his dark hair before leaning down and pressing a gently kiss to his lips. Loki gasped and drew back slightly before leaning forward and pressing his lips back against Thor’s. It had been two weeks since they had kissed, and Thor had missed it. He had wanted to give Loki his space, so he didn’t push anything on him. But now they both needed the comfort.

Loki pulled away and stared up at Thor for a long moment before wrapping his arms around his neck, and pulled him close. The older man smiled softly and wrapped his arms around Loki. He couldn’t tell what the other man was going through, but he could be there for the times like this when he needed and anchor.

Jane poked her head up, and looked at the two men. They were sitting on one of the chairs talking softly to each other. She strained her ears to hear, and even then she only got a little bit of it.

“...think that father will find us?” Thor was asking.

Jane growled silently when she couldn’t hear the reply. She wanted to get closer but that was chancing it. Whatever Loki had said didn’t seem to go over very well with Thor. The man grunted and shook his head softly.

“Even if he does I will make sure he doesn’t take us back.”

She heard Loki laugh. It was a dry and hollow sound. He said something that made Thor wilt and sigh. Jane watched as Loki reached up and stroked Thor’s face. The man smiled softly and buried his face into the other man’s shoulder. Jane suddenly felt like she was intruding on something very intimate. As quietly and quickly as she could she pushed the blankets on the roof, and slid down.

They really were running from their father. Shaking her head she sighed, and walked to her trailer. She felt a sudden urge to help them. Making up her mind she decided she would talk to Erik tomorrow and see what they could do to help them.
