Blah, blah, blah... Jane/Lisbon confuzzlement!
So I need to get some stuff out of my system about Jane/Lisbon's relationship in The Mentalist, feel free to skip past this post because it's going to end up with me getting annoyed at myself.
The whole premise of the show is based on Jane being messed up from what Red John did and that's my biggest issue with shipping these two because I know Lisbon hasn't the best of lives herself but I think she deserves to have a guy who is already in a good place mentally and I'm not even sure that she could make Jane 'better'. My mind goes back to when Jane left her to console Van Pelt in the elevator because Lisbon is not equipped with an ability to help people when they are emotional; it makes her uncomfortable and that's the opposite of what Jane needs.
But on the other hand there are certain moments when everything I just said is wiped from my mind and the pairing is the best thing since sliced bread. Certain quotes especially are like this, for example "Can't you see there's people who care about you, people who need you." or "If I were dying I'd call you, but you're already here." The latter one makes me want to jump around shouting she's always going to be there with you and then they do things for each other that make me have such high standards for any future realtionship I have, becuase really would a man ever kill for me and would I ever let that man hypnotise me even if I don't believe in his 'powers' fully myself?
Now Lisbon is starting to trust him more personally (think Red Badge or "I don't know what to do") and this kills me more because deep down I know that Red John is going to come along and make Jane into a different kind of person. But I also think that when it comes down to it Jane will choose life, I agree with Lisbon on that, I don't think Jane would actually give his life away in the hope of Red John being dead too, Red John revenge is all Jane wants and I hope that when this day comes someone - not Jane or Lisbon - will kill Red John so Jane can't hold it against her and Red John will be gone.
If these two do intend to get together then I think that it will have to be at least another 2 seasons down the road, maybe even longer because although Jane is now asking out other women I don't feel as though he is ready for a new settling-down style relationship. God, I get really attached to fictional characters and their relationship don't I?! I'm even confused by what I feel about these two characters, possibly even more than I was when I started this post. I'm just going to enjoy their flirting for now and wish that Walter Mashburn can come back and make my shippy brain happier if he takes Lisbon on a date. No I do not care if Lisbon wouldn't go for him normally, they were just adorable!
