More musings on pairings

Been browsing through FF.net because, well, I have work up to my eyeballs and need a distraction. And I have to note at the springing up of Ronon/Keller fics ( Read more... )

sparky, pairings, mcshep, sga, ronon/keller, spanky

I have to say, I really don't care where they take the Ronon/Keller relationship. They just don't work for me, and they probably never will, so I figure I'll just ignore it. I like Keller, don't get me wrong, but like you said, I'm not into the gender stereotypes that the pairing reeks of. Really, isn't it getting a little modern to still have the white knight and damsel in distress running around in our TV Shows? Twenty first century, people.

As for Ronon/Teyla...I've always automatically stuck them together, that's how much it just works. They have great chemistry, and who really can't see that half the time they're looking at each other and thinking "These earth people are crazy freaks, aren't they?".

Plus I wouldn't want them to be lonely while John and Elizabeth have their happy fun closet time, but I digress. XD

As for Sheyla...I just don't see anything more than a close friendship there. I respect people who put them together, heck, I read Sheyla, but I only really see a romantic relationship in fanfic, not canon.

There's also a smattering of Sheppard/Carter emerging, and, honestly, that doesn't bother me. It's exactly as you said - Shep doesn't have to constantly take care of someone like Sam, because she's a strong woman, not a damsel in distress. If we got a definite answer on whether Elizabeth was really dead, as in an actual body, I might even be alright shipping them.

MsShep...well, you can't be in this fandom and not read McShep eventually. Slash is fun, though. I'm also a fan of Sheppard/Lorne, because, really, prettiness overload. XD

lol! :D Totally. At that point, Ronon and Teyla have to go and stick!fight. *coughforeplay!cough*

Sheppard/Carter? Hmm... that's actually not too bad. Although if it turns out that Elizabeth is really dead, then I'd either keep going sparky or start slashing Shep with Rodney. Because, man, that one has really wormed its way into my heart. *wry*

I'm also a fan of Sheppard/Lorne, because, really, prettiness overload.

omg, I love that. Hee, prettiness overload, indeed. Personally I kinda like Ronon/Rodney, because, well, awww. Kinda cute. ^_^

I read this great fic a while ago that was Ronon/Rodney, but I can't remember where I saved it. Dammit. O.o

I'm pretty universal when it comes to ships. The only ship I really can't stand and would never read unless the writing/plot was totally awesome is McWeir. I don't know why, but it just makes me cringe. I'll put pretty much anyone with John (John/Zelenka sounds weird, but is really adorable, John/Beckett is just, well, yes, John/Heightmeyer is surprisingly sexy...I could go on and on...), and I don't really care who shacks up with anyone else. John/Teyla is really not as bad as people put it out to be when the writer shoves the bimbo-stereotype out of the way and gives you some development (if you don't believe me, check out greenconverses Not in the Stars AU, which is an awesome Sheyla fic that's not like all the others. Call me crazy all you want.).

While I respect your opinion I just can't think of John/Teyla in other terms than "eeeewwwww". Call me crazy but I just can't stomach them together.

I completely understand, and trust me, I used to think the same way myself. I just find it's important to always try new things. All I'm saying is that, though I don't particularly like Sheyla, I don't have a vendetta with it. Sparky is still my main ship, though, and Sheyla in the actual show is disgusting, so yes, I know where you're coming from. XD

The thing is, I read fanfic for character and plot, not just one or the other. I'm ready to stomach a little John/Teyla if the story is really good. But I do respect how you feel, and even I have ships (as previously mentioned) that I avoid like the plague. Mostly just in the Twilight fandom though, where a lot of the ships are just plain revolting.

I as well contemplated not watching S4 of Atlantis, but I can't really stomach the thought, so I think it's really amazing you were able to pull it off. The very thought makes me shudder. But I can tell you that if they took my own favorite character off the show, I wouldn't want to watch it either. It would be like it always was for me watching SG-1 - interesting, but not anything to go crazy over. I loved Elizabeth, and I was really sad to see her go, but she was never the main reason I watched the show. It did, however, drive home the point that yes, I might completely quit watching if it was my favorite character that go booted off.

On the other hand, vendettas are kinda fun...but that's just my evil world dominating side talking.

Gah, I'm rambling again...XD

What tied me to the show was Elizabeth and sparky. Without that it's bye bye SGA. Why is Teyla better than Elizabeth? More worthy to be the heroine and the one who gets the guy? Sometimes it seems like Elizabeth was booted off so there would be no distraction for TPTB's pet ship. I guess I do have vendetta with it, and while I like both Teyla and John those two simply don't mix for me. i despise kirking too, I guess it's just my shippy view that creates this problem.

Not watching is amazingly easy. I don't miss anything at all. When I feel like it I still write fan fiction. And I enjoy reading it too. But the show itself? Nah. I don't want to watch this trigger happy family where my favorite character doesn't belong to.

I read couple of sparky fics where there was little of John/Teyla but those were sparky fics. I even wrote one like that and it was quite good. But sheyla fics or anything connected to it is just disgusting to me. Just - ugh! Again, I'd rather watch Exorcist. Or Croatian dramas, which are beyond awful. Anything is better than sheyla.

Never was a fan of Exorcist...Don't watch horror movies that often. Action/Horror, but never really horror. XD

I think I just have faith in the writers not to do much of anything in canon. I think that's why Stargate has survived so long - they don't go into long, lengthy romances every two episodes and lose half their fan base every time. They were just experimenting in Rising by trying to throw Sheyla on us, the fans said "No!" and so far they've respected that pretty well. There may be some flirting, there may be some kirking (which I don't like either), but there's never any established relationships and soap opera night. I love that about SGA, and it's the reason I hold it high above all the other "popular" shows. All I see when I watch things like ER and the like is a big soap opera that never goes anywhere.

*giggles*

I'm very different I think. I want relationships that do go somewhere but that's something very difficult to pull off. Yes ER is beyond awful but SGA is, IMO just the other side of the coin. Grown up people have relationships. I want quality writing, character development and new way to show a love story on screen from my sci fi shows. And I have very high standards.

Wait! I'm having an epiphany here! Make different shows altogether! Like hot wings! XD

Stargate Atlantis: The Original: Explore planets and never have any relationships! In other words, prude!SGA.

Stargate Atlantis: Sparky: John/Elizabeth every week, with little side helpings (about two minutes) of everyone else!

Stargate Atlantis: Sheyla: Flash Gordon meets the Pegasus Galaxy, sci-fi disgusting cliché mania!

And so on. XD

Ummm I vote for Sparky? LOL. I'm not saying it should be all about them every week. But from things I saw on screen, sparky is the only relationship there that looks realistic and not cliche.
