I live!

Now that I just turned in my one and only final this semester, I thought it was time to touch base with the rest of the world. *grin* I am alive and well! My new boyfriend and I are planning to go to Richmond this weekend to go play at the amusement park, should be alot of fun and a much needed break.

I am still working on my PhD in Materials Engineering. Add to that a MS in Engineering Education, and add in going to several conferences to network and start presenting my research, and you may understand why I have been incommunicado for several months. I am loving my research. Sounds strange doesn't it? But, this is the second sign that I am doing the right thing.

The first sign is loving teaching at the college level. This past semester I had the opportunity to substitute for one of the professors who is teaching an Intro to Materials class. I taught the 8am and 10am classes twice. It was a *very* enlightening experience. I learned that not only do I love the idea of teaching college, I am going to be fine.

There is nothing like it. It is exciting, scary, and fun all at the same time. But the important things are that I am enjoying what I am doing and am actually looking forward to the next 3 years of school not dreading them.

My SCA life is continuing although I am trying to keep my commitment level low. School must come first. I am still planning to do my Harvest Moon event at Smithfield Plantation in August (the weekend after everyone returns from Pennsic). I know the timing isn't great, but we are planning to do the Duck Pond demo simultaneously and funnel people up to the event. With Smithfield's schedule and VT football games this seems like the best choice.

With my current financial situation, it looks like I won't be making Pennsic this year. I am hoping to get everything settled so Chris and I can go next year, but no guarantees at this point. So, I hope to see some of you at Sapphire, some at Assessment, and some at Kingdom Crusades.
