Well, I got worried about the N Korea thing, because I wondered if they might send military forces into South Korea (NOT the US), regardless of whether they had China's support or not, because I thought an argument might be made that China faces a fairly similar situation with respect to Taiwan.
I spoke to someone about it, but he was sure that N Korea could not attack without China's support since it didn't have the resources and also because of very strong links, and that China would never support such a move. Taiwan was a different situation altogether, he said, although I didn't see why it could not be raised as a way of supporting N Korea's possible sending of troops into N Korea. He did say, though, that China had no choice but to attack Taiwan if it declared independence, because such declaration could lead other regions in China/ other Chinese territories to declare the same. And then we'd have Warring States, Part II.
I don't know how much influence China really has over N Korea, because if I were N Korea, I wouldn't listen very much to a nation that's doing so much business with the US, and then I'd point out that S Korea and N Korea are really one country and to heck with the US and everyone else, and there should be one Korea.
And on a more selfish note, if war breaks out anywhere there, everything's going to be pulled out of Asia, and businesses will suffer and so will banks and therefore law firms will as well!
And on a completely unrelated note...
