OK, OK... that was great!
I called a girl in my Ward today to see if she wanted to go on a date some time. We've been friends for a while, and I just thought it would be fun to do something. Now, the response that I got from her was not at all what I expected, but it totally made me laugh and earned a HUGH amount of respect for her. This is how it went:
ME - Hey, I was just calling to see if you wanted to do something some time this weekend.
HER - You mean, like a date?
ME - *chuckles* Yeah, like a date. *big grin*
HER - You know, I just don't think that you and I are compatible.
*pause*
ME - OK *searching for words*
HER - Yeah, I just think I would drive you crazy.
ME - *still searching for more words* OK...uh, why do you say that?
HER - Well, you're friends with (fill in the blank) and I drive him nuts. So I think I would drive you crazy!
The rest of the conversation isn't important.
The point is that she was able to be completely honest with me without pretenses. No hidden agendas, just pure honesty.
Action: Honesty, blunt and upfront
Result: No hurt feelings, earned admiration, and a continued friendship
Now, why can't all girls be like that?
