Let me tell you a story about my friends Tricia and Cory:
Cory is the nicest person i've ever met. he's funny in the quirky, hilarious way. And he's got a big heart. Tricia is one of my good friends here. She soooo pretty, but it's hard for her to believe. Cory tells her 4 times a day that he thinks she's beautiful. He tells her he's happiest when he wakes up next to her in the morning. THEY ARE SO FUCKING CUTE.
And here's the problem: Cory has an internship in Beijing for the Olympics this summer. He'll be gone from like June till mid August. Well, that's not that big of a deal right? Here's the other thing: Tricia is going to study abroad next year. In Jordan. Like, in the Middle East. Where they speak Arabic. (Tricia is studying Arabic). That is a VERY long distance relationship. She leaves for Jordan three days (THREE DAYS) after Cory gets back from China. SO they won't see each other for 6 or 7 months.
So they're trying to figure out if they should break up or stay together. He wants to break up, she doesn't. He says that it's not healthy to stay in a relationship where you want something so much but can't have it. Tricia gets that. But this is what she was telling me when she started freaking out: Do you know what a break up means? Boys think it's so simple. Break up, cut it off, cut off the pain of not seeing each other. What am i supposed to do when i have a funny story in Jordan and I want to tell him? I can't call him or IM him or anything. Because if I talk to him, I'll just want him back. If I talk to him, I'm going to get so sad. But I can't just NOT talk to him. How do you cut out of you life a boy that sleeps in your bed every night? How do you cut out someone that tells you he's happiest when he's with you? How do you cut out someone that makes your life better, that makes you better? What am I supposed to do?
So it's not a story that's totally relevant to you, but just know that you're not the only one that's facing the long distance thing. And yeah, he's far away. But he makes you happy and (in Tricia's words) he make your life better. Sp it's hard, and you will be (and are) sad. But it's him. I bet when you say his name you can't stop smiling. I bet when you see him walking down the hall towards you, you get butterflies. And I bet you're at your happiest when you're snuggled up against him on the couch watching a movie.
This is just me pretending to be wise about relationships, haha.
