I keep having these brilliant travel ideas: Montreal, Toronto (for a half-marathon), Ireland for a couple of weeks away from the world, home to see the family, and now, Atlanta, Georgia. The last two are the biggest possibility.
I haven't been to the States in... Wow, I think the last time was 14 years ago when we went en famille to California. I don't even have a Canadian passport anymore! I could travel on my British one, but the airport personnel might get perplexed.
I'm not too nervous about going to a new city - heavens know I've survived it before, and I'm sure there are enough geeky people in Atlanta at that time to help a fellow geek-in-need. No, what I'm nervous about is the event itself.
DragonCon is huge. Inexpensive, but huge. It spans four hotels! I could get crushed! I could suffer a demophobic melt-down! I could ... really have a lot of fun. And though I know it would be more fun to have friends I know there, maybe I'll meet some new friends, or even meet friends I've had for a while but never met before.
Also, it's only one weekend. If I'm not training for something, I'll take some quick easy runs. If I am training for something, I'll squeeze 'em in all easy-like with my Garmin.
Is anyone else going?
