The Week in Review

May 20, 2006 21:48

Wow, so much has happened this week.

The top of the list being g0dlike's visit, which was much too short, but so sweet. It was great seeing her again - next time, I promise to have a job that I can take those days off, and then I'll really show you a wild side of Ottawa.
As it was, she arrived Monday and promptly got tackled (by me, not security). Inverted_ideas and I showed her the Byward Market though we failed to obtain her a much-lauded beaver-tail, since we'd just had dinner at the Blue Cactus Grill.

On Tuesday, I took her down to The Manx, a little hole-in-the-wall bar under the Elgin Street Diner. It has about the best vegetarian cuisine I've seen in Ottawa (though my research is a bit lacking, I'll be the first to admit), and Stormi really enjoyed her vegetarian tacos. I really wish I could have taken her there for breakfast - I adore their omelettes. Fortunately, we were able to slide right in for that time of night, as it tends to get a bit packed later on (especially on a Friday or Saturday night).

Wednesday, knowing that we had precious time left, Stormi went down Bank Street in the search of art stores. We then hied ourselves over to II's, who made a lovely curry with salad. The man can definitely cook! Stormi, meanwhile, amused herself with II's PSP, playing Prince of Persia: Revelations. Now I'm hooked on it too.
It was raining, unfortunately, so we didn't do much after but talk and get ourselves (the long way) to the bus station. I waited with her until she got on the bus, and then took a cab back to II's, since taking a bus to Bayshore at midnight was not conducive to me waking up in time for work the next day.

Stormi, I really really hope you enjoyed your time here, and I hope that you know you're welcome to come back anytime. Also, I will take those days off, and show you just how much fun Ottawa really can be.

The rest of the week was pretty quiet... with exception to the Oilers winning their series against the San Jose Sharks on Wednesday, and then winning the first game in Anaheim against their Mighty Ducks. I don't wish to sound boastful (right, uh huh), but the Oilers are going duck-hunting! Stephen Mandel, psychic to the Oilers and mayor of Edmonton in his spare time, has predicted a win in five games. Apparently he's been right for the other series as well.

Today, I made another foray into girliness: .

Dear mother of pearl, I knew it was going to hurt. I can't say that I didn't know that going in. I didn't know it would hurt so much.

I was taking suggestions on ottawa, and someone mentioned Amalfi Spa in Rideau Centre, and suggested a name who could be trusted.

So I gave it a whirl. I called and made a reservation with this person who luckily had a free time in the afternoon.

I was led into the back of the salon, which is a lot more than just some hair studio. It looks a bit closer to Friedrichsbad in Baden-Baden. But with more pain and less pools. Oh, and less naked women too.

Anyways, I was told, upon undressing, that I hadn't let my hair grow quite enough, so the job would be mildly sub-par. I figured, 'Well, I'm here, let's get it started so I know what this is all about.' So we chatted as she put my pain receptors to the limits. She got as much as she could, and to make a long story short, I'll be going back in a month or so to get the same thing done to me, hopefully with a little less pain and a little more success.

I had some more deep thoughts (ha ha) to write down, but I've written so much already - my fingers are unused to this excercise. II's making tandoori chicken now, so I'd better get my appetite up for that.
