Advent Adventures, part seven.
Although Draco usually ate breakfast early then disappeared off to the library, this morning was different. There was going to be a special delivery from his very favourite shop, and it should arrive at breakfast time. He would not miss Harry opening it for anything. He was like a cat, Draco thought to himself. A cat about to pounce.
He had eaten his breakfast and was lingering over a huge mug of coffee when the Gryffindor trio trooped down to the Great Hall. They had just served themselves when the morning owl delivery swooped down. A nondescript brown post owl had plonked a box in front of Potter. Draco almost failed to notice the letter he received in his excitement at seeing Potter’s reaction.
He opened his letter swiftly. It was a Christmas card, decorated with an enormous snow cock. Draco nearly choked on his coffee. Opening up, he saw it was from that very same shop, thanking him for his custom throughout the year. He quickly turned it over so it was picture side down and hoped he wasn’t blushing.
Harry finished eating his toast and pushed his plate away, making room for his parcel in front of him. Draco was having a hard time not grinning like a loon or rubbing his hands together. He watched Harry take a clean knife and cut through the parcel tape, opening up the box. He took out an envelope, and opened it, pulling out a card. From the raised eyebrow and the violent flush, Draco betted it had the same seasonal picture as his. He watched as Harry’s blush deepened as he read the message Draco had painstakingly composed inside. He could remember it word by word he had spent so long deciding what to say.
Harry,
I can guarantee this will be better than anything Finch-Fletchly’s even dreamed of. Don’t forget to cast muffliato and seal your curtains closed. Enjoy!
Your naughty Christmas Elf.
Draco’s grin widened when he saw Harry furiously trying to conceal both the card and the message from his nosy friends who were peering over his shoulder. When Harry picked up the box and all but fled from the hall, he hid his smile in his coffee mug, before hurrying out after him.
Potter was slumped against a wall in the corridor off the Entrance Hall that headed towards the Gryffindor classroom. He was clutching the box to his chest, and had pulled his robes around him in such a way that only managed to telegraph his problem. With great difficulty, Draco fixed his eyes on Harry’s face.
“You alright there, Potter? You appear to have had quite a shock.” Draco was impressed at the even tone of his voice.
Harry’s head whipped up. “What? I mean, hi. Fine. Thanks. Fine!”
Draco tilted his head to the side and affected concern. “Sure? Don’t want me to go fetch Finch-Fletchly or anyone?”
Harry shifted and stood up straighter. “Why is everyone convinced I’m seeing Finch-Fletchly? First my Chri…” he tailed off.
“Perhaps because they are rumours going round that you snog him in alcoves?” Draco decided he would not mention that they weren’t rumours per se, just him having seen them.
Harry blushed even more deeply. Draco wondered whether it was healthy for skin to turn that colour. “Er. No. Not exactly. Sort of a one time thing. He’s sort of…”
“Grabby?” Draco suggested.
“Yeah.” Harry grimaced, then looked curiously at him.
