Been reading through my print-out of the Cloud arc, taking notes. It's amazing the things you forget about when you're working through a first draft. Throwaway characters, plot threads that never went anywhere...ugh, cleanup in aisle three.

So I've got some power editing to do. Most of the grammar is clean, most of the story works. It just needs a little surgery.

In the meantime, I just wrapped up 500 words of the next installment of The Gentleman in 114, a noirish time-travel short I'm writing with my coauthors this week at the PLC. I know I don't talk about PLC much here, but I usually post there on Mondays. Anyhoo, here's a snippet/link to today's installment.

“Have a seat, Mr. Cantor.” Lauren said. “I’m Dr. Barstand. I’ve come to ask you a few questions.”

“You like questions? I got one for ya.” Cantor bounced back down onto his seat, loosely crossing his legs. “What’s a fella gotta do to get a drink in this joint?” He gave her a twinkling white smile, a smile full of friendly creases and charm, a smile that said stick with me kid, and we’ll go places.

“That’s the trouble with hospitals, isn’t it? Short on bartenders.”

Based on the feedback I got in my last post, I'll be putting some tidbits of Highgard up here soon, probably friendslocked. The fiction I write at PLC for the Round Robins and the 500 Club is more like showcase work, just something to have fun with.

PS If you know of any joint blogs on writing that you really enjoy, or if you want to promote your own, drop me a comment. We're looking to do some awards and cross-promo in the not-too distant future.
