Having a friend say that you have a hottie boyfriend is almost as good a compliment as telling you to your face that you're a hottie... ^.^
A few weeks ago, a friend of mine was meeting Jason for the first time. After the party got going, we had to vote for the costume contest so we went into another room, and she said "For starters, let me just say that your boyfriend is HOT. I first saw him and was wondering who that hot guy is, because I'm sure he's not Jewish..." Yup, that was a pretty good compliment...
So I got to thinking about why that was such a good compliment. And I started to think about biology. Evolutionarily speaking, people only mate with people that are of compatible attractiveness. Ugly people date ugly people, and pretty people date pretty people. People try to date as high of quality of a person that they can find, but if they're ugly, then they can't get a very high "quality" mate... so the prettier your mate, that translates into meaning that you are either prettier or a higher quality mate. We date the best that we can - if we didn't think that the person that we were dating was the best that we could get, then obviously we'd dump them and move onto someone better.
Therefore, by saying that my boyfriend is very attractive and of high quality (which he is), that was another way of her, inadvertantly, telling me that I am both attractive and of high quality to be able to catch a guy like that.
Yay me! ^.^
