Left Friday evening for a weekend camping trip. Traffic never really gives up between 2pm and 10pm, so we were caught in the brunt of it. I took the wrong shortcut and wound up in surface street traffic. We arrived at Table Mountain about 10 minutes after sunset. There was a stoner couple squatting our site, but they vacated once I told them that they were in our spot. We had borrowed my father-in-law's truck, after the logistics problem of our
last trip. It's bright headlights helped our tents go up in the twilight. Saturday we went on a hike to the Big Horn Mine, an easy 4 mile round trip hike to an abandoned mine. We went in one of the mine shafts, but our inadequate lighting inhibited any spelunking-type activities. Jay suggested we come back with some more lights and better gear sometime soon. Later that day, I took my bike up to Mt High North, and explored some of the Ski Runs. Sunday, after we packed up, we took a drive along Blue Ridge Road, an unmaintained truck trail along Blue Ridge (hence the name). We crossed Mt High West and East, checked out Blue Ridge and Guffy Campgrounds. Both offer very good seclusion and excellent scenery, but no water. At guffy, we walked along the Pacific Crest Trail (A hiking trail that spans from Mexican Border to the Canadian Border) for about 1/4 mile. The very short walk made me admire the hardly folk that hike it through to it's completion.
