Friday after work, I went to Marshall Canyon in La Verne. I have to say it was really fun. We started around 5:30pm from Oak Mesa park off of wheeler. We started by the creek, crossed it a couple of times, mostly just roller coasting water crossings. Then there was a somewhat tough climb, followed by another long climb, then another climb. After the third tough climb, we were at the top of Claremont Hills wilderness park. If you've ever been there, it's the gate with the sign that says "Claremont City Limits". Anywho, back tracking on Burbank canyon mountainway for about 50', we came on another trail that leads you back towards marshall canyon. Real fast roller coaster style. I got a little carried away and missed the singletrack back to Marshall.
Now, I've been riding for almost exactly 1 year. And only about 6 months of serious cycling. First time I did a single track, I went over the handlebars. Second time I did single track, I was fearing snakes in the 5 foot tall grass. This time however, there wasn't overgrown vegetation, and my new bike proved to effortlessly handle any big drops or big rocks the trail threw at me. It was most enjoyable. I was keeping up with my buddy the whole way down. got air a couple of times from the bumps. Lots of fun. There were only two switchbacks, real easy to navigate. 1 tough watercrossing. It was the best 11 miles I can remember :)... Highly recommend it.
