Ok, so on Friday, a bunch of my coworkers took the day off, and we headed to Big Bear to meet some of our Atlanta counterparts for a day on the slopes. After about 5 hours of riding, a group of us ended up on a double black diamond run. I, having been snowboarding for 8 years now, feel most comfortable in the terrain park, where I can hit jumps and generally have fun. Black Diamond runs are fun, in moderation. However, it seems that whenever I find myself in a Double black diamond, I eat it pretty hard. Must be the crappy so cal man-made snow.
Anyhow, finding my self atop a near-vertical drop, I was debating whether or not to try and climb out of it, when, before I could finish that sentence, I slipped on some ice, and started my rapid decent. Now, if any of you recall the weather on Friday 2/3/06, you'll remember it was unseasonable warm. I was riding in only a t-shirt, and I had previously lost my gloves during lunch. Lets do the math.
Bare flesh + hard ice + high speed = OUCH!
when I started my fall, I instinctively tried to claw at the ice, which ended up in bloody/broken fingernails and fingertips I couldn't feel for two hours. I also have some nicely scabbed ice rash on my left forearm, and difficulty moving my left shoulder.
The good news was, the nurse at the ski patrol station was really cute :)
