Dear Electric Company...

Please keep power flowing to my house for the next 2 days.

My sump pump is running continuously - firing off every minute. No kidding. It's on a battery backup but I don't think it it would last more than an hour at this rate (assuming the battery still holds a charge - I suppose I should check on that, eh)

For those who aren't familiar with the term, a sump pump expels the water from around the foundation of the house (basement) to prevent/reduce risk of flooding. Without it, water would collect around the basement walls of my house, eventually find a path in, and make my lovely finished basement a stinky swamp of goo. No thank you.

It's not just that it's raining. The 13" of snow we had has melted, saturating the ground last week. It started raining early yesterday morning and has kept up a steady pace ever since. We've had over 4" of rain with 3 or so more to come today. If it were snow, that would be 28" (I heard 1" of rain = 4" of snow). Ye gads! It's supposed to eventually let up this afternoon and cease tonight.

I swear this is true - I heard the newsguy last night say "EVERYTHING is flooding. Creeks, rivers, lakes, you name it - if it holds water, it's FLOODING." Sigh. I miss the Walter Cronkite era, where things were reported and not OVERLY DRAMATIZED *flings arm over forehead and sinks to her knees

Coz I NEVER EVER over-exaggerate too much.
*giggle

I need some GALOSHES!
Here's a nifty version of the Vestibules version of "Bus Stop" or "Bulbous Bouffant"
