that's right, i'm listening to a female singer songwriter, and loving it. Who knew?

oh. my. goodness.

so, last week, i went out with brian for a bit before he left to go back to New Orleans.  When I got in the car, he was like, "you need to hear this cd, its incredible." To which, i responded "If its chick-rock, I'm out staying home." because, he has a thing for female vocalists  who tend to suck (like Feist, who i have no use for whatsoever).  So, he tells me i better get out of the car, because, thats exactly what it is.

Only...it does not suck. Not even a little bit. It is, in fact, incredible.

I dont know how mainstream she is, but i think she's still relatively unknown. Her name is Regina Spektor, and she's from russia.

Her voice is really passionate (not entirely unique, but very good nonetheless). And her lyrics unmatched.

watch this video. its as gorgeous as the song....which gives me chills.

lyrics:

you are my sweetest downfall
i loved you first, i loved you first
beneath the sheets of paper lies my truth
I have to go, I have to go
your hair was long when we first met

samson went back to bed
not much hair left on his head
ate a slice of Wonder bread and
went right back to bed
and the history books forgot about us
and the bible didnt mention us
not even once.

you are my sweetest downfall
i loved you first, i loved you first
beneath the stars fell on our hats
but they're just old light, they're just old light
your hair was long when we first met

samson came to my bed
told me that my hair was red
told me i was beautiful and
came into my bed.
oh i cut his hair myself one night
a dull pair of scissors in the yellow light
and he told me that i'd done alright
and kissed me till the morning light, the morning light
and he kissed me till the morning light.

samson went back to bed
not much hair left on his head
ate a slice of wonder bread and
went right back to bed.
oh we couldnt bring the columns down
yeah we couldnt destroy a single one
and the history books forgot about us
and the bible didnt mention us
not even once

you are my sweetest downfall
i loved you first.
