So I've sweated through five days of hideous stomach cramps, fever, and assorted badness from drinking tap water in India. (I don't recommend it.) However, I knew what was causing that and how to (eventually) fix it (antibiotics yay!)
Tonight I have a stomachache which is almost equally painful as the "Delhi Belly" experience, but this time I don't know why I'm sick or what to do about it. It's not nausea, just pain! I consulted the internet and I've been drinking a bucket of ginger tea with lemon. I think it's helping, but I still feel awful. This better not last five days.
More happily, I'm still enthralled by my OTP to the point that hearing
a familiar, but otherwise unremarkable song on Muzak at the grocery store had me imagining a vid to that song for the rest of the trip. I don't know how to vid, or you might have been treated to my clumsy 'an injured/ill Charles imagines Erik has come back/never left' vid to a 1982 Asia song.
Seriously, though. "All through the winter, I thought I'd never see you again / Oh God, where were you when I needed you?" ;___; Damn it, Erik.
I confessed to
helens78 recently that I had an embarrassing avalanche of feels at a particular point in the splendid AU
Little Birds when Charles is injured and "Erik held his soft little dove close until Charles was warm". Ahem. This is somewhat ameliorated by the fact that Charles literally is a dove in the story-- they're all birds-- and other characters underestimate him at their peril, and he is in fact injured because he heroically faced down danger to save others.
Still. The amount of heartlurch and naw that moment inspired kind of took me aback. I'm pretty damn invested in top!Charles and in-charge!Charles. As I see it, in all their First Class interactions, Erik is the one hurting and in need of help, and Charles is in control and a rock and does his best to help him, right up through the last scene when Charles puts his safety and sanity on the line to help Erik get the revenge that Charles counseled him against seeking.
And of course at the very end of the film, Charles is badly injured and Erik cradles him in his arms and that leaves a huge impression, but even then, Charles is arguably more in control, as Erik implores him to join him and Charles refuses.
(I still marvel, so to speak, that this is our canon, askld;fj, both what's on screen and that the screenwriters and actors have said the film revolves around the love story between Erik and Charles; a writer flat out said it's a love story and McAvoy said, verbatim: "It is a little bit of a mini-tragedy that him and Magneto don't, you know, have sex and become married and become best friends," bless him, with extra blessings for "A little bit on Tuesdays" and "four times" and "We had sex every morning, and that helped.")
My point, three tangents ago, was that in Charles & Erik's relationship, I decidedly see Charles as the leader. He saves Erik's life, explains Erik's own mutant nature to him, convinces Erik to join Charles's search for mutants, takes him on road trips, teaches Erik how to reach new levels of power and restores some of Erik's brightest memories. Erik spends most of that period either sassy, violent, or crying.
This is not even getting into the fact that Charles's power includes literal mind control.
So I really side-eye implications that because Erik is taller and shoots people, he's in charge. It packs in so many messed-up assumptions: the one in charge is the more butch and manly one; the one who's more violent is more butch and manly; biology is destiny (because taller always equals top, even though McAvoy looks like he could bench-press Fassbender.)
Aaaand yet, that moment in Little Birds got me, and I've been hunting around for h/c with Charles as the comfortee. Of course the guy in charge can also be the comforted one, but a lot of h/c tends to kinda woobie or uke-inate the hurt character, and... I'm not backbuttoning on the stuff I find that does that. Also I'm working on a couple of stories where Erik's rescuing Charles (though glancing at my top 10 Google Drive files, there are two rescuing-Charles stories, and three stories where Charles is not just rescuing Erik but specifically rescuing him from dubcon situations, so, you know... yeah.)
I'm in a weird phase with my OTP right now, I guess is the "shorter" on that one. And I'd be happy to take some Charles/Erik h/c recs off your hands if anyone has any lying around.
Oh, relief, my stomach finally feels better. Maybe now I can sleep.
