I definitely won't be writing this, because it would be epic and I'm already juggling several long WIPs. But! Of course, my recent Portal adventures have given me an SGA bunny.
It's a mashup of The Last Man and Portal 2. As Portal 2 begins, the main character, Chell, wakes up to find that a long time has passed while she was in stasis; an orb-shaped robot AI fetches her and guides her to get a portal gun and attempt escape from GLaDOS, the malevolent AI that runs Aperture Science.
In the SGA fusion, John wakes up to find thousands of years have passed while he was in stasis, and a lot of his memories are hazy. A hologram of Rodney appears and guides him to get a portal gun and to evade GLaDOS, the malevolent AI that now runs Atlantis.
Rodney tells John that after her activation, GLaDOS managed to trap John, Teyla, Ronon and Rodney in stasis when they tried to shut her down while everyone else evacuated. Then, to avoid Atlantis being retaken by the SGC or attacked by the Wraith, GLaDOS harnessed a solar flare and Rodney's wormhole drive to jump Atlantis forward in time by a few millenia.
After a few centuries alone, GLaDOS got bored and adjusted Rodney's stasis pod to permit his consciousness to function at a normal speed even though his body remains in stasis. Rodney and GLaDOS worked on wormhole theory for a few decades, and eventually invented the portal gun, and Rodney invented long fall boots with antigravity effects to keep the portal user upright and to absorb impact shocks, since so many interesting uses for the portals involved great heights.
GLaDOS became obsessed with the idea of testing portal applications, and Rodney saw a possible escape opportunity and heavily encouraged her, suggesting that she should free him or one of the others for testing. She chose John because her Ancient programming only permits her to fabricate devices that require the ATA gene, and John is expendable to her, while she wants to keep Rodney around.
John goes through test chambers built by GLaDOS. She's programmed not to harm or kill-- that's why the team have been in stasis instead of dead-- but she's fully capable of setting up deathtraps, so he has a couple of close calls. And John has to complete the tests to reach food and water at the end of them. GLaDOS also insinuates that she might put Teyla or Ronon through testing, without the portal gun that's necessary to survive the experience, if John doesn't complete the tests to her satisfaction.
Rodney can't help John with the tests; GLaDOS blocks his hologram from speaking about the solutions. But he can guide John to free Teyla and Ronon from stasis, and helps conceal their freedom from GLaDOS. While John keeps GLaDOS distracted with testing, Teyla and Ronon explore, discover that the planet has gone to desert, and look for a way to destroy GLaDOS. Rodney tells John he has a plan to use an upcoming solar flare to send the city and the four of them back to their own time, so that Atlantis will reappear shortly after GLaDOS jumped it forward.
Since it's me, this bunny is also John/Rodney, so they reveal their feelings for each other somewhere in there and then they spend the rest of the story frustrated because after each test John's increasingly beat down and Rodney wants to comfort him, but he's a hologram, so they can't touch.
Finally Teyla and Ronon find the control room, and break John out of a test chamber. The three of them confront GLaDOS. Unfortunately, in their first assault on her, they destroy the component that contains what little moral constraint she has.
She begins to respond with attacks against them, and cuts off life support to Rodney's pod; they only have a few minutes to destroy her before Rodney's body suffocates inside it, while hologram Rodney frantically tells them how they can take GLaDOS apart.
Then GLaDOS finally reveals something John couldn't remember all this time: Rodney's the one who discovered GLaDOS and argued in favor of activating her. But after John revived with fragmented memories, Rodney didn't tell John that part, and John, who's been reliant on Rodney to fill in the gaps, feels betrayed.
GLaDOS senses weakness and gives them a puddlejumper and offers to send them back to their own time, and she'll let Rodney live, if they just leave her with Atlantis. Otherwise she promises to kill all of them. She claims Rodney doesn't really have a plan to get them back to their own time, that even if they defeat her they'll be stuck in the desert of the far future forever.
For a few moments, they consider it. But GLaDOS makes the mistake of starting in again, trying to sow distrust among the team and get them to leave Rodney with her in the future. John remembers that GLaDOS blocked Rodney's hologram from talking about certain things, like the solutions to the puzzles-- and, John suspects now, about Rodney being the one to activate GLaDOS, knowing that it would shake John's trust in him.
So with fresh determination, the three of them use John's portal gun, Ronon's blaster, and Teyla's bantos rods to take GLaDOS apart.
Once she's disassembled, they go to free Rodney from stasis, but Rodney suddenly strenuously argues against it, saying they should leave him there and he'd rather spend millenia as a hologram than a lifetime in his human body. Since earlier Rodney was unhappy about not being able to touch John, John knows something is up, and discovers that GLaDOS left a trap on Rodney's pod that Rodney can't tell them how to disarm, since her blocks on his hologram remain in place.
Rodney is able to direct them to do everything necessary to capture the energy of the solar flare and use the wormhole drive to travel back in time. It takes weeks for everyone to return to Atlantis, and to repair the changes GLaDOS made, under Rodney's hologrammatic direction. John finds endless uses for the portal gun and long fall boots.
Zelenka and Miko work on the trap on Rodney's pod, and finally spring him, and he and John kiss passionately. They head toward John's room to try out the new bed John got in anticipation of Rodney coming out of stasis, when Rodney gets distracted by the portal gun and boots and wants to try them out right away, and John whaps him upside the head.
